| LIFE IN SOLERA | OCTOBER 2026 | 9 The California FAIR Plan program is expected to raise rates by 29.1 percent for certain homeowners starting Oct. 15. Rates will be highest for those in high-risk, fire prone areas. Many homeowners throughout the State of California who are unable to find coverage in the standard homeowners insurance market end up in the Fair Access Insurance Requirements Plan, also known as the FAIR Plan. Several Solera residents have stated to me that they have FAIR plan coverage. Those on FAIR Plan insurance usually have to buy a supplemental homeowner's policy to make up for what the FAIR Plan does not cover. For Solera residents shopping or renewing their homeowner's insurance policies, please inform your insurance carrier that Solera is a recognized Firewise USA community in good standing through 2027. Firewise certificates are available in the Mail Room. Follow the recommended property-level mitigation efforts suggested by your homeowner's insurance company. Let your insurance company know that all homes in Solera have double paned windows, Class-A rated roofs and enclosed eaves. All Solera homes have stucco exteriors. Fencing is either block wall, wrought iron or vinyl. Perimeter wood fencing is not allowed in the Solera HOA. There are three fully-staffed fire stations within five miles of Solera. Please continue to trim your trees and hedges. Taking care of these items might save you a little bit of money on your insurance premium. The homeowner's insurance market is constantly changing and is very unpredictable. Hopefully 2027 will show improvements in availability and affordability. OCTOBER'S FIREWISE TIP: Fall is fast approaching and that means leaf dropping season will soon be here. Take time to regularly rake up leaves so that they don't collect up against hedges and plants. Dried leaf and other dried plant material can quickly catch on fire from f lying embers. Fall also brings the dreaded Santa Ana winds. Santa Ana winds peak during the months of December and January. Be prepared for PSPS (Public Safety Power Shutoff) events. SCE has very good information on their web site on how to prepare for a PSPS event.
