| LIFE IN SOLERA | OCTOBER 2026 | 41 GOLF CLUB Pictured are Captains Ray Smith and Dave Samara who led the Solera Golf Club in the President's Cup Competition Sept. 15, 22, and 29. The tournament followed the general model of the contest between the U.S. and non-European countries of the world (the Ryder Cup is U.S. vs Europe). Team Smith played Team Samara during three rounds of Match Play golf at Yucaipa Golf Club and Tukwet Legends. Rather than total strokes, match play involves each hole being won, lost or tied. At the end of each round, the number of holes won determines whether you win your match or tie your match, so the golfer or team earns either 1 or 1/2 a point. On Sept. 15, the teams played Partner's Best Ball Net and on Sept. 14 the format was Partner's Combined Net score. The format was Singles' matches, one player against another on Sept. 29 (WHITE KNUCKLE TIME!) If you see Ray or Dave after Sept. 29, ask how their teams fared. You might get some interesting information or here an interesting story. GOLF TIP OF THE MONTH: One mistake newer golfers, and some experienced ones, often make has to do with lining up at the target you'd like to hit. Make sure some steps are followed: 1. Stand behind the ball for a few seconds and select your target 2. Line up your clubface and ball, not your feet, at the target 3. Swing to the target. If a golfer frequently hits the ball to the right, he/she might be lining up feet, not clubface and ball at the target.
