The City Council approved the Sunset Crossroads project, including nearly five million square feet of massive warehouses next to Sun Lakes. Banning residents fought back, gathered the signatures required for three referendums, and forced the Council's decisions onto the November ballot. Now we get the final say. No community has more at stake than Sun Lakes. The project means massive warehouses, years of construction, more truck traffic, diesel pollution and noise right next to our homes. The project could generate about 1,700+ truck trips every day. That will lower home values. We bought our homes to live in a residential community — not next to an industrial warehouse complex. For many of us, our home is one of the biggest investments we have ever made. Why should a national developer make millions off Banning while we are left with traffic, pollution, noise and lower home values? They make the money. We live with the consequences. THREE MEASURES. ONE PROJECT. ALL THREE MUST FAIL NO ON U stops the industrial rezoning that opens the door to nearly five million square feet of warehouses. NO ON V stops the housing shuff le that moves housing away from the warehouse property and allows about 1,150 homes to be concentrated onto only 41 acres. NO ON W rejects the 30-year development agreement that locks in rights for the developer and limits what future City Councils can do. We must defeat all three. If one passes, it gives the Developer an opening to keep this project alive. DON'T LET THEM HOLD SAM'S CLUB HOSTAGE We are up against a national, deep-pocketed developer with millions of dollars at stake. They can spend unlimited money on glossy mailers, advertising and messages trying to convince Banning voters that without their warehouse project, there will be no Sam's Club. That's a false choice. Sam's Club was coming before this developer and can still come without nearly five million square feet of warehouses. The retail area was already planned. We can have Sam's Club without the mega-warehouses. We can have shopping, jobs and responsible growth without sacrificing Sun Lakes and the investment we made in our homes. USE THE PEOPLE'S VETO Thousands of Banning residents already did the work. They signed the petitions and forced these decisions out of City Hall and into the hands of the voters. Now it is up to us.
