By Fermin Austria e Next Level Pickleball Club is designed for players who want to enjoy competitive, well-matched games while continuing to develop their skills. e club brings together players with a range of abilities and creates opportunities to play with others at a comparable level. By organizing games around player ability, Next Level creates more competitive rallies, better match ups, and a more enjoyable experience on the court. A key part of Next Level is creating games where players can challenge themselves without being consistently overmatched or under-challenged. FOUR SEASONS AT TERRA LAGO ROADRUNNER | NOVEMBER 2026 13 Next Level Pickleball By Darryll Barber, Club President At one point in our lives, when we were young, every veteran in this community raised their right hand and swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States; not a president or king, but an idea. They left the safe world they knew for an uncertain future that they knew was going to be difficult and dangerous, yet they left anyway. Along the way, we met people from all over the country and realized that we are not particularly different from one another. Our diversity became a source of strength. We were all stronger together then, and we are stronger still today. We learned to work together, to live together, and to care for each other. Our bond is unique because it was forged by a shared purpose and experience. Many of our Veterans came home to an ignominious welcome from the country they served, while others came home to a silent and indifferent public. The sense of community and brotherhood we developed over the course of our service was missing. We found that even when people asked us what we did in the service, they were not really interested in what we had to say, because they could not understand or relate to our experiences. The FSTL Veteran's Club provides a space of camaraderie for our Veterans to congregate, socialize, and bond with people who experienced similar situations. The FSTL Veteran's Club has accomplished quite a bit over the last few years. We have sponsored two children to attend the California Cadet Corps summer encampment, collected toys for "Toys for Tots," donated to local law enforcement, and hosted a few great barbecues. Not to mention, our world-famous Veteran's Day Dinner Dance. We have more left to do. Speaking of our Veteran's Day Dinner Dance, please join us for our 3rd annual Dress to Impress Dinner Dance on Nov. 14. Gary Calvaneso, an Army Veteran and a huge asset to our entire FSTL community will be providing the entertainment. We also extend an invitation to anyone who is interested in joining us for the Army/ Navy Football game on Dec. 12, at 12 pm in the Lodge Game Room.
