16 FOUR SEASONS AT TERRA LAGO ROADRUNNER | NOVEMBER 2026 Resident Spotlight By Vail Roe I had the privilege to participate in the 6th annual "Next Runway Star" charity sponsored by Rise and made it to the quarterfinals, raising over $1,500. Rise was founded in 2014 with the purpose of insuring civil rights both locally and internationally for victims of sexual abuse and rape. They are responsible for getting the federal "Sexual Assault Survivors' Rights Act" unanimously passed in 2016 and continue to work for survivors' rights. Giving back is something I find myself drawn to, and the support of many here in our FSTL community, along with family and friends, fills my heart. Many of us have been victims of or know someone who has been a victim of sexual abuse or rape. Knowing that there is a movement out there to help us and others be heard and navigate the trauma is comforting and why I chose this charity to support. It is with a full heart that I say "thank you" to all who show their giving hearts in many ways. Next Runway Star Competition | Elevate Global | www.nextrunwaystar.com. By Trish Malone On Sept. 11, 2026, Indio unveiled a new memorial to September 11, 2001 at Miles Avenue Park. The memorial, created by artist James Dinh, is made of a steel beam from the World Trade Center anchored on a tall concrete pillar, and framed with a white backdrop that shows the date 09/11/01. The beam is twisted and bent from the destruction caused by the planes that caused the World Trade Center's collapse more than 25 years ago. In her remarks at the unveiling, Indio Mayor Elaine Holmes said, "September 11 reminds us of the incredible sacrifice made by firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency personnel and members of our military, both on that day and in the years that followed." The next time you are downtown, take a moment to visit this special work of art at Miles Park and pay tribute to the many lives lost that day.
