| OHCC LIVING | NOVEMBER 2026 | 43 Golf Club In this month's article, we are celebrating gratitude of our members, volunteers and Golf Board. With an estimated 660 members, there is a lot of planning and organizing that is done to run approximately 300 tournaments a year for our members. This includes Monday Chair Todd Albiston and team, Tuesday Todd including Randy Royter, Wednesday Ladies Debbie Machnick and crew, Niners by Mike Bell, Fling Golf by Don Quigley and Tom Murphy, Guys & Dolls by Mark & Teresa Deutman, and next year Special Tournaments run by Bob St. Laurent and his huge crew that we are forever grateful. The Golf Club also held its annual elections for Board members, so please welcome our new Golf Board that will be noted in our December issue. Guys and Dolls were held Oct. 17, after fall maintenance; those winners are available to view on ohgc.net. Mark and Teresa will continue Guys & Dolls next year. In early October, we lost Doug Wright, a 22-year member and rules chair. He and wife Carol ran Guys & Dolls for several years. Our annual volunteer luncheon was held Oct. 29 — without them there is no "US." We also had our grand opening Lake tournament on Oct. 26-27 with Mike and Annette Guillory as tournament chairs along with Kathleen Cannon, Mary LaForte, Terry Chamberlin, and Gay Spencer, along with a host of volunteers who made it memorable for approximately 250 golfers. We had our final touring amateurs on Oct. 12 at the Welks and we want to thank Mike and Annette Guillory for running it over the last several years. Also big thanks to our sponsors who will continue to support us AMADA, Shadowridge at Melrose, and O'Connell as we transition into more special tournaments right here at home at our beautiful golf course. Wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving — we have so much to be grateful for in our community and nothing beats a round of golf before a big dinner with friends and/ or family. Written by Teresa Deutman Happy anksgiving from the Golf Club Guys and Dolls Chairs Mark & Teresa Deutman View from 10th Green on opening day of back 9 What an excellent September speaker Club W engaged - Robin Cohen from the Helen Woodward Animal Center! It was extremely interesting to hear how the Center operates: no animal is ever EUTHANIZED. The search is always to find each an appropriate home, even snakes. The variety of programs were impressive: on Campus, we learned how horseback riding can offer exercise for those with walking difficulties and off-site programs to visit patients with their pets who soothe and create smiles. Thanks to CJ, Hazel Bobach was able to arrange for two of the Center's volunteers to bring their dogs so we could have first-hand experience and understand what joy these pets bring to recovering or shut-in patients - just a 'furry' friend to pet and cuddle. On Oct. 29, Club W members visited the Helen Woodward Animal Center for a tour of their 13-acre facility near Rancho Santa Fe and hear more about their programs. (Do think of taking your grandchildren there.) Our visit was followed by our bi-monthly lunch at the 'Champagne Bakery' nearby — appreciation to our Luncheon coordinator, Lauretta Hartzell, for all her efforts. A thank- you to some of the members of the Pet Lovers' Club for joining Robin's presentation and to Ellen Kipple for her support and assistance with the arrangements. All OHCC residents are welcome to Club W's Speaker Forums which are held after our General Meetings in Abravanel Hall. Check the Flip Book for upcoming events. On Sat., Oct. 17, our guest speaker was OHCC's Recreation Director, CJ Palmer. He shared personal data and we got to know him a little better. Plus, he discussed his thoughts on present and future directions regarding our community. A special guest accompanied him — his wife Jandy who will enlighten us about the "real" CJ! On Sat., Nov. 21, the Club W's General Meeting will host speakers Drs. Diane Tsai and Abby Brandt (D.P.T.). They are both passionate about helping others to improve their lifestyle through a program they offer, especially for those suffering from Osteoarthritis. Join us in the Hall; all are welcome! Club W is looking forward to an interesting and busy fall. Written by Carole Anne Nake, President of Club W Club W
