Emergency Preparedness Program
The next EPP meeting is Thursday, Sept. 5, at 10:30 am in
the Lodge Ballroom. Rick Cook of the Beaumont Office of
Emergency Services will be the speaker.
Meetings focus on educating individuals, groups and
the community to be prepared in the event of a
disaster. There are various teams to address
the community needs. As you know, this has
been a very active fire season: too many,
too close to home. What would happen
if the wind blows the fire toward us? We
must be prepared. Make sure you have
copies of your important documents in a
separate safe place. We encourage everyone
to take advantage of the free Community
Emergency Response Training (CERT), a
federally certified course for the public which
gives the basics of being prepared and ready for yourself,
family and others.
We now have many more CERT residents to add to our to our
roster. This follows our goal at Four Seasons to educate, train
and be prepared. Our objective is to get as many residents CERT
trained as possible. The training allows an understanding of
the basic organization and actions for disaster planning.
At our August meeting Fred Porter spoke on lessons
learned from the Moore, Oklahoma tornado
disaster. His family was caught in the
tornado and he and his wife Sandy went to
assist. They were able to use knowledge
from the CERT training to help in the
devastation that followed. Some of
the important lessons learned are that
water may not be drinkable so keep at
least a three-day supply on hand, and
get a tetanus shot if you are not current.
The items in the back pack given at the
CERT training were very useful. We have extra
copies of the handout. Remember, a CERT trainer
will be featured at the September meeting. Come out and be
a part of the community preparedness program. Get ready! ~
