Book Club If you had the chance to change the course of history, would you? Would the consequences be what you hoped? In one of Stephen King's most "ambitious and accomplished" novels, time travel has never been so believable… or so terrifying. This book was the winner of the 2012 Los Angeles Times Book Prize. Join us Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013 at 9:30 am, in the Conference Room of the Lodge to discuss Stephen King's intriguing book, 11/22/63. Dallas, 11/22/63: Three shots ring out. President John F. Kennedy is dead. Life can turn on a dime. Jake Epping, 35, teaches high school English in a small town in Maine. While grading essays by his GED students, Jake cries reading the gruesome piece penned by janitor Harry Dunning 50 years ago. Harry somehow survived his father's sledgehammer slaughter of his entire family. Jake is blown away. On his deathbed, pal Al enlists Jake to take over the mission that had become his obsession, preventing the 11/22/1963 Dallas assassination of American President John F. Kennedy. How? By stepping through a portal in the back storeroom of Al's diner and into the 1958 era of Ike and Elvis, freeway gas guzzlers without seat belts, sock hops, and cigarette smoke. Will Jake spend the time between 1958 and 1963 lurking in impoverished immigrant slums beside troubled loner Lee Harvey Oswald, or sharing small-town friendliness with beautiful high school librarian Sadie Dunhill, the love of his life? Join us for what will be a very interesting discussion and reminiscence of a painful time long ago. Next month's selection will be Where'd You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple. Micki Rosen will lead that discussion on Oct. 8. You are welcome to join us at any of our meetings. You're invited to bring your own picnic lunch and a dish to share with the group table. That dish should be enough for five or six people. This is a casual, fun-filled event and an opportunity to meet our neighbors and get to know them better. There will be music, dancing, card games, dominoes, and any board game you would like to bring. It is a perfect time to meet new and old residents, share fun and food, and find out a little more about our organization. We are looking for new members who want to be a part of a vibrant organization. We are in the process of planning our calendar for 2014 and this is the perfect time to join and give us your ideas and "expertise." We meet the first Monday of each month at 5 pm in the Card Room. Please join us. For more information about this event or membership in our organization, please contact Betty Ann James,(951) 572-5538 or Joyce Allen (951) 769-4354. ~ Roxie Elliott High quality • high standards • Interior/Exterior 3rd Generation Painter Contracting For Over 29 Years Minor Repairs: Exterior Wood & Stucco, Interior Drywall, Wood Trim Specialty Coatings: Faux Finish, Venetian Plaster, Cabinet Refinishing Thank you in advance for the opportunity to give you Lic. #423807 a free estimate! 909-208-6142 Bonded CLUBS & GROUPS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | SEPTEMBER 2013 29
