yiddish culture club Our January meeting was our fabulous Installation dinner with a wonderful singer. In February we viewed the absorbing documentary "Jewish Soldiers in Blue and Gray" where not a chair scraped the floor during the entire performance. (We had refreshments first). March found us in the South Clubhouse eating the traditional symbolic foods washed down with wine from the Passover Seder while singing, reading, and asking questions about the Seder. In April we honored Yom Ha Shoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, with a film about Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal shown after we enjoyed cake, cookies, fresh fruit, coffee and tea. May was a blast off to the L.A. Science Museum to visit the space shuttle Endeavor and view the IMAX Film about the Hubble Telescope. Of course we also got to dine in the museum! Do you begin to see a pattern forming in our activities? June found us enjoying our annual Ice Cream Social with at least six varieties of ice cream and syrups. Afterwards we heard interesting facts about two of our members and then had a "getting to know a new friend" session. July was our stupendous BBQ with patriotic songs and dance and a chance to greet those American War Veterans who attended. August was our month for genealogy with Lois Rosen presenting tips about finding your roots. We found at least three of our members' families had come from the same town in Lithuania-Poland-Russia! Of course we also had a bite to eat. And this is the Yiddish we learned, "Ess, Ess mein Kind!" (Eat, eat, my child!) To continue the year's theme we have planned a celebration of the New Year 5774 for our Wed., Sept. 11, meeting. The celebration will be held at the South Clubhouse at 6 pm and will include chicken soup with matzah balls, gefilte fish, challa, brisket, whole roast chicken, potato kugel, fresh veggies, honeycake, coffee and tea. The cost for this festive dinner is $15 pp for members and $18 pp for guests. All are welcome. Paid reservations, with checks made out to the YCC, are necessary, must be received by Wed., Sept. 4, and should be sent to D. Stone, 1800 Litchfield, Banning, CA 92220. For more info. call 769-0130. Flyers, with reservation-tear off form, have been placed in the Main Clubhouse. You may BYOW, etc. if you wish. The entertainment for the evening will be presented by Nancy Ford who has most recently performed at Highland Springs Resort. Ms. Ford has been performing for over 40 years. She has a three octave vocal range and her repertoire includes Country, Blues, Rock, Jazz, Broadway Melodies, and Opera. She says she "loves to connect with her audience!" We're sure we will all love to connect with her and delight in her music during this joyful event. TM $75 off any American made Bradford White Water Heater with installation Exp.
