Delegate Assembly Report Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly EPAP ANIMAL RESCUE As of today Sugar is still in need of a permanent home and love. Please call Helen for more information at 797-0583. The July meeting was well attended. The guest speaker, Terri Dimorino, was very informative about coping with pets when emergency strikes. So much so, that talk of a booklet about the subject is in the work. Our next meeting is on Mon., Sept. 16, at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. The "dogs" will host our program: Guide dogs (puppies-in training), therapy dogs (and their humans) will inspire us with stories about their "upbringing. Please join us to "meet and greet" these furry humanitarians! At the Sun Lakes Craft Fair on Nov. 1 and 2, our group will have a table with raffle baskets and pets' gifts. All proceeds go to rescuing animals. Thank you for your continuing donations of towels and rugs or any necessities that will help make an animal a little more comfortable. We are looking forward to see you on Sept. 16. Info., 769-4934 4 | sun lakes lifestyles | september 2013 | community news NEW HOMEOWNERS, NEW ARRIVALS, NEW RESIDENTS (I hope that covers everyone) welcome to Sun Lakes Country Club. We have the most active adult community in the nation, and we hope you participate and join in the fun of living here. Our Homeowners Association has a program whereby all new arrivals are invited to dinner. We hope to show ourselves as friendly and knowledgeable enough to answer all of your questions. The committee members usually invite the District Delegate so you are familiar with your Delegate. A bag of information is given to each new arrival containing information sheets, magazines, free passes for golf and so on. However, we have a problem that has occurred too often, the new arrivals are "no shows." Either they refuse to attend or commit themselves to attend, and do not show up. We do not have the opportunity to display our friendship, to explain the rules, to answer questions, to encourage them to participate in our clubs and use our facilities. Hopefully, they will read the 'Rules and Regulations' printed in our phone book. In fact, everyone residing in our complex should be familiar with the "General Statement of Rules and Regulations" in your current phone book. When we ALL follow them, it makes for a happier community. Years ago we had an "Orientation Night" each quarter of the year whereby all new homeowners or renters were invited to attend a meeting hosted by the Board of Directors. We would speak of the governmental makeup of our community, how rules came about, the surrounding areas and answered questions. There are people who think this was a better method of reaching our new friends rather than in a dining room competing with the background noise. Either approach is successful if we have an audience to welcome to their new home. What we hope to accomplish is to convince new arrivals to be active and use the facilities they are paying for. We hope they have not located here for security only and couldn't care less what Sun Lakes Country Club is all about. We have elected a Board of Directors to govern our facility and finances, we have hired a management company to manage and carry out the policies of the Board. The residents of each District elect a Delegate to represent them and to make recommendations to the Board for the betterment of our community. All of these arrangements were legally put together for the benefit of each and every resident of Sun Lakes. We will continue to succeed as it has for the past 26 years if we all work together and play together and enjoy our retirement.
