Emergency Preparedness Program We meet the first Thursday of each month at 10:30 am in the Lodge Ballroom. The topics for our Oct. 3, meeting are Fire Safety and the Great California Shake Out. Congratulations to our new CERT trained graduates. Some have already become active in our EPP program. We thank you for being individually prepared and helping our Four Seasons community. We have had some unusual weather this season, fires, extreme heat and humidity, thunder storms and downpours. ' At our September meeting, Rick Cook, Beaumont Trainer for the Office of Emergency Services, told us about the unusual weather patterns and spoke about being prepared for the aftermath of the fires and the torrential rains. According to the National Weather Organization this is just the beginning. One important tip is to laminate and put your documents in a weather proof container. Also, know the low spots in this area. Be careful when driving through standing water because you do not know how deep it is and could be stalled, or if the water moves you could be carried away. He also stated that it is important to take proactive steps to securing your home. Check your alarm systems and clean out your lint from the dryer. John McLaughlin, Fire Suppression Team Leader also said if you have a golf cart, be aware of an extreme fire danger - do not plug in your battery charger and leave it in overnight as it may cause a fire. October is Fire Prevention Month. John, retired Cal Fire Division Chief, will be the featured speaker with more tips on Fire Safety. October is also the California Great Shake Out Drill, in preparation for a major earthquake. Call with any questions or concerns. ~ Anita Worthen FIRE! Fire Safety Checklist: What are Your Home Fire Safety Risks? Do you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home? Do you stay in the kitchen while you are frying, grilling, or broiling food? Are space heaters placed at least 3 feet or more away from things that can burn? Are all electrical cords in good condition (not damaged or cracked)? Do you know two ways out of every room in your home? Do you know what to do if your smoke alarm sounds? If you said NO to any of these questions, you are at a greater risk for being injured in a home fire. Community News | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2013 15
