Ping Pong Club It has been nice to have some new players turn out for ping pong recently. This month we introduce two new players. They are Lian Lee and Sandy Lee (in the picture, Sandy is on the left and Lian is on the right). These two Lees are not related but they do understand the game of ping pong. Lian got started playing ping pong while attending middle school in Taiwan when she was around 13 years old. Because her school only had one table, she was only able to play around 50 hours of ping pong during those school days. After those school days she didn't play any more. So, when she moved into Four Seasons in May Paddle Ball of this year, it had been a long time since she had picked up a paddle. Lian says that she really enjoys the fun, challenge, and discipline that comes from playing ping pong. She likes being part of our club because of the very friendly and fun members. When asked if she thinks everyone should play ping pong, she said, "Absolutely." Next month we hope to tell you about Sandy Lee. For more info on how you can join Lee and Lee for fun and exercise in the Ping Pong Club, contact Niles Sundstrom (nilstrom.com (951) 572-5119) or Alan Chan (aymeng@aol.com, (951) 769-4202). ~ Niles Sundstrom Our Second Annual Paddle Tennis Double Elimination Tournament held in August was won by Robert Norwood. In double elimination, competitors play until they have lost two matches. The winner of each match had to win three of five sets. In this tournament, Jim Cochran won all three of his matches and advanced to the finals. Robert played five matches, losing to Jim, earlier, but advancing to the finals. Michael Rothberg was defeated by Robert in the semi-finals. The other seven competitors were Alan Chan, Mike Flower, Rob Gardner, Jeromee Liebenberg, Terry Miller, Paco Paez, and Garrett Warman. The weather was almost perfect except for Lee & Lee some occasional winds. The tournament lasted a little over two hours. Special thanks to Phil Harris and Rob Kelman who kept scores and made sure that line calls were accurate. And thanks to the Alan Chan, Jim Cochran and Mike Flower the tournament planners who made this a successful event. Come join in the fun: Our Official play schedule during the summer is Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, 7 to 9 pm.
