Creative Drawing & Sketching Class Are you in need of relaxation? A beginner at drawing? An classes and sit through it to see if it is for you. Looking forward experienced artist? Not able to draw a straight line? to seeing new faces in class. ~ Rob Kelman The answer for you is the Drawing & Sketching class held twice a week, at NO CHARGE, for your convenience. We have approximately 20 students between the two classes now. Many started with no experience or last picked up a pencil to draw over 30 years ago. Their results have been remarkable, creating pictures good enough to frame and hang in their homes. Those with experience, have all learned from the classes and have improved their skills. The instructor works with other media (colored paper and pencils) with the more advanced students. Classes are Mondays, 10 am to 12 pm and/or Wednesdays, 6 to 8 pm. If interested in joining, please call the instructor, Rob Kelman (951) 992-9156 (home) or (602) 571-0414 (cell) to get information on supplies. Otherwise, just drop by one of the Work by the Artist of the Month: Rob Gardner Camera Club We meet the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Craft Room at the Lodge; thus, our October meeting will be Oct. 15. Visitors are always welcome. We invite all photographers, regardless of skill level, to join us for our regular meetings and other field trips. Members are always eager to help and teach. We discuss photography, photo software and hardware, and related subjects of interest. The last two months, I told you that in our June meeting, we had a really interesting discussion on quality of our pictures and how it often is not the "photographic equipment" that takes a great picture; it is the "photographer." So, our challenge from our leader, George Johnson, for the July and August meetings, was to take a picture from a camera (no cell-phone cameras) that costs less than $20. Well, we did have some pictures from those "under $20 cameras" and, although the quality was not stellar, the pictures were "presentable." As a side note, some of our members do have inexpensive point-and-shoot cameras and some of us have expensive DSLR cameras and I have to tell you some of the pictures from the "point-and-shoot" cameras have been absolutely amazing. Commencing with the August meeting, we began doing photograph evaluations of members' pictures who want to participate. Remember, this is voluntary. This friendly critique is a great way to see just exactly what the photographer did "right" and where there could have possibly been improvement. All camera-club attendees learn this way whether or not the individual chose to submit their photo. We had some helpful, interesting, and friendly comments and critiques. In addition, our alternative photo project is ongoing (i.e. we bring a picture of a specific genre we all agree on). This, also, is completely voluntary. That's the great thing about our camera club. If you desire, you don't have to volunteer any pictures, just sit back and learn from the discussions and critiques! For the September meeting, the genre was "flowers." So, come on out to our meeting and show us some of those great summer vacation pictures you took.
