photography Our next meeting is Oct. 14, 7 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. If you missed the September meeting you can still bring your summer pictures. With Christmas on the way, we will discuss what's new in digital cameras and begin plans for our Christmas party. Since this meeting will be on Columbus Day Italians will get reserved seating up front. Too bad Columbus didn't have a camera; his adventures would have made an excellent photo spread. He didn't even have a sketch artist on board. You can never take too many pictures but if you bring some shots (either prints or a digital image on flash drive or CD) they'll be projected onto our big screen. Everyone, amateur or pro, is welcome; you can ask for critiques of your work or simply show off. Meetings are the second Monday of each month always in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room at 7 pm. Try to limit your photos to five but no one will complain if you bring more. This is a friendly group meeting and there are no dues. Questions? Ask any of our knowledgeable members who can help you with any technical or artistic advice. Info., Steve Felber, 7696898. 28 | sun lakes lifestyles | October 2013 | social clubs & groups genealogical society Mick Altmyer, from the Hemet Family History Center, returned to speak at our August meeting. There was so much that was covered, it is hard to explain. He did stress three points: 1) Click 2) Scroll and 3) Read. We went on family search.org and he gave us his email address to contact him if we needed help. He also stated that he personally likes rootsmagic.com. We hope to welcome him back again soon.  Meetings are held at 1 pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. We have had a mix up recently in speakers. Gary Underwood is the director of the Redlands Family History Center and he will get a speaker for us for the meeting on Oct. 23. The topic will be "Trees" which is another program for us to check out. We have been blessed with very knowledgeable guest speakers that give us tips and tricks for research, as well as providing numerous websites where you can do your searching. We hope you find someone in your family that shares your love of genealogy. A family tree is a gift to family members that just keeps on giving. Annual membership is only $15 per family. Info., Ann, 769-5955 or Jerry, 845-7850.
