Creative Drawing & Sketching Class The "BULLY" Story - About a month ago, our Artist of the month, Phil Harris, accused me of being a bully! He came to class with the current drawing he was working on and told me, "I'm done! I can't work on this anymore. I don't like it and I want to start on something new." I explained to him that before he just threw it away, to work on it, just a little more, during this particular class. I showed him why he wasn't happy and how to improve the picture by punching it out with dark contrasts using ebony pencils, and he should then be satisfied and done. By critique time, at the end of class, Phil was beaming with pride and his classmates were equally impressed. As Phil was leaving class, he came up to me with a smile and a glint in his eye and called me, "BULLY!" in a most heartwarming but kidding way. To this day, that is his nickname for me. (The drawing being shown is the picture from the story above.) Sometimes, artists don't know when to stop drawing, always looking for that "something" to improve when they should just put down their pencils. Other times, they get frustrated by not knowing how to finish. The solution is… the Creative Drawing & Sketching Class, held twice a week, Monday 10 am to 12 pm and Wednesday 6 pm to 8 pm. The classes are FREE and very relaxing. It is your choice to come to a single class or Camera Club We meet the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Craft Room at the Lodge; thus, our November meeting will be Nov. 19. Visitors are always welcome. We invite all photographers, regardless of skill level, to join us for our regular meetings and other field trips. Members are always eager to help and teach. We discuss photography, photo software and hardware, and related subjects of interest. Commencing with the August meeting, we began doing photograph evaluations of members' pictures who want to participate. Remember, this is voluntary. This friendly critique is a great way to see just exactly what the photographer did "right" and where there could have possibly been improvement. All camera-club attendees learn this way whether or not the individual chose to submit their photo. We had some helpful, both. Looking forward to seeing some NEW faces in class. Any questions, call me, the instructor at (951) 992-9156 (home) or (602) 571-0414 (cell).~ Rob Kelman Work by the Artist of the Month: Phil Harris interesting, and friendly comments and critiques, thus far. In addition, our alternative photo project is ongoing (i.e. we bring a picture of a specific genre we all agree on). This, also, is completely voluntary. That's the great thing about our camera club. If you desire, you don't have to volunteer any pictures just sit back and learn from the discussions and critiques! For the November meeting, the genre will be "street people." Wow, where did all of the time go? The holidays will soon be upon us. That means lots of holiday pictures, right? So, come on out to our meeting and get some tips on how to make those photos the best possible. The series will be led by one of our Bible Study members, Doc Sellars. During this four week series we will examine scriptures that describe the fruit of the Spirit, and how we can grow these qualities within us. Our discussions will seek to unpack relevant scriptures and to draw upon the participants' insights and experiences. Key themes in these sessions will be: transformation, discipleship, spiritual disciplines and Christlikeness. Come and join us as we explore these subjects of interest. EVERYBODY IS WELCOME! Our Bible Study meets on Tuesday evenings in the Ballroom of the Lodge from 7 to 8 pm. The club provides an opportunity for us to meet others in the Four Seasons community, and also a chance to encourage and strengthen one another in our walk of faith. Each lesson is self-contained, and everyone is welcome. For more information, call Don Cummings at (951) 572-5329. ~ Don Cummings CLUBS & GROUPS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2013 27
