alzheimer's & dementia helpers November is the month we celebrate Thanksgiving and we give thanks for all that we have. I am thankful for the success of the Alzheimer's and Dementia Helpers Group and the many people we are able to help. I am also thankful for the wonderful volunteers who keep this group going. Shirley Almeida is one of them. Shirley left our group when her husband John passed away. She took a year off and has returned to chair our group once again. The countless hours she gives to this group is so much appreciated, and we give thanks. We also thank Allison Dugger who filled in for Shirley Durinh her absence. November is a beautiful month, I hope you will all find something or someone to be thankful for. Our next meeting will be Thurs, Nov. 21, at 10 am. Please note our change of location for this month only. We will be meeting at the Beaumont Presbyterian Church located at 702 Euclid Ave. on the corner of 7th. Our guest speaker is Perry Wiggens, Care Consultant at the Alzheimer's Association, Coachella Valley Regional Office. Our next caregiver's support group meets on Tues. Nov. 12, at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. This group is open to all caregivers not just a caregiver to an Alzheimer's person. All are welcome. Come enjoy and discuss caregiving issues, or whatever is on your mind. This meeting is all about you, the caregiver. Refreshments are served at this meeting. If you have any questions regarding the Tuesday Support Group contact Diane at 769-0130. Remember, the Tuesday support group is for caregivers only, no patients. If you have any questions or would like to learn more, we have reading material we can share with you, contact Shirley 845-2008 or Anne 845-8700. Continuing with our educational information (50 things you should know about Alzheimer's disease) here are numbers 19, 20, 21and 22. #19 If memory loss begins to interfere with daily living, Alzheimer's could be the reason. #20 If you notice symptoms of dementia in yourself or someone you care for, consult a health care professional. #21 Doctors diagnose Alzheimer's disease by eliminating other causes of dementia. #22 Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's is important. social clubs & groups | sun lakes lifestyles | november 2013 |23
