friends of bocce The Fall Tournament is drawing to a close. Playoffs will be held the week of Nov. 18, beginning at 1 pm. They will complete bocce ball competition for 2013. It's been a great year! Come out and enjoy the finale! As usual, we will take a break from organized competition for the holiday season, resuming with the Winter Tournament after the first of the year, at which time your yearly dues will, again, need to be paid - still $12 and a bargain! Check the December bocce article in Lifestyles for the 2014 bocce ball schedule. The Bocce Board wishes to thank all the faithful referees who volunteer their time to keep mayhem to a minimum. The success of our tournaments is largely due to your services. Their names can be found on the back side of the bulletin board. Have you looked at it lately? Teams with phone numbers can be found there along with the names of the Bocce Board. Check it out. See you on the courts. tennis Our World Cup Tennis League has restarted. Our first matches were Portugal and Italy with Portugal squeaking out a victory by games. Then Croatia and England played with Croatia coming out victorious. We only have November left for our league. The new captains are Gail Matejka for Italy, Bob Walter for Croatia, Tracy Galongo for England and Dave Huetten for Portugal. They will contact their teams with the current dates. We will have our ending World Cup potluck party on Nov. 15, at 5:30 pm at the South Clubhouse. Our pizza and beer mixer is still going strong. This mixer is once a month on the third Wednesday at 5 pm. We have had some non tennis players join our club just to have fun at our mixers and events. For only $5 pp come and join the fun with tennis, pizza and beer. Men and women of all levels of play are welcome. Our ladies USTA league has started its fall and winter league. Please come out and support our ladies 3.5 team. The schedule will be posted at the south courts. We had a great turnout for our men's and women's doubles championships. It was great to see so many fans and supporters. Our men's doubles champions were Chuck Beckman and Bob Shibata and the second place team was George Kilmer and Raul Solorio. Our women's doubles champions were Scipia Curtis and Michele Walter. The second place team was Carol Ellis and Kris Wallace. Both matches were so exciting to watch!! If you are interested in serving on the board please contact Dan Comerford at 202-2553. We will be voting at this potluck and will install the new officers at the Quarterly meeting and Holiday Banquet. Our last quarterly meeting and Holiday Banquet will be Dec. 7, at 5 pm. We are having this catered. The cost is $15 pp and the club will subsidize $5 pp. Please make your checks out to the Tennis Club for $10 and drop in the box at the South Clubhouse. I will let you know what the dinner selections will be. Please indicate on your check your dinner choice. There will be a sign up sheet at the south clubhouse and also a place for your dinner selection. Please make sure you sign up and indicate your choice along with your check in the box. We would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to all the current board members for their commitment, time and service. We had a very successful year and it would not have been possible without them.
