Discovery Club How can we get information about our family history? It might be more obvious and easier than you think. Just start asking your older relatives about the people they remember. For example, if either or both of your parents are alive, ask them about their parents and grandparents. What were they like? Where did they live and what did they do? Where did they come from, and when? Don't worry about the accuracy of what they say – just let them talk and reminisce. Take notes, and sort it out later. And go easy on them. It's better to get the information little by little in a casual, friendly way than to do a lengthy and tiring interrogation. Sounds too easy, doesn't it? Doing this one simple thing will produce lots of good information about your family. But time is running out. Do it now – don't wait. When these dear folks are gone, all that they remember goes with them, never to be told again. For those of us who have no older family members left, it's much more of a challenge, and that's a subject for another time. Four Seasons resident Jan White, former teacheradvisor and ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher for L. A. Unified School District, is excited to provide basic Spanish language acquisition/instruction. Class will be held every Tuesday (except the third Tuesday of each week) in the theater room from 6 to 7:30 pm. Beginning Spanish is offered in three-month sessions, starting Tuesday Jan. 14. This session goes until mid-April. If you are interested, look for a sign-up sheet in the Lodge. If you attended prior Spanish class sessions and want to continue at the beginning level, we would like for you to sign the interest sheet; but, if you simply show up for the first class, you will be in! This class is designed to help those who have never studied Spanish, or those who have very little knowledge of the Spanish language and want to improve basic understanding, vocabulary, and pronunciation primarily for personal usage. From time to time, I will provide written handouts to augment learning; but it is suggested that participants have a spiral notebook and pen at each class meeting for notetaking. Intermediate and Advanced Spanish acquisition is offered by resident, Paty Bushnell, at other times. Inquire at the Lodge for the dates, times and locations of her classes! If you have questions or concerns, please call me at (951) 797-3700; or e-mail me at jan@janicita.com. I'm excited! I hope you are too! ~ Jan White Easy Christmas Shopping Your favorite lady… call today And we'll find the perfect gift. CLUBS & GROUPS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2013 35
