Hiking Club Weather wags warned, "Rain commencing at 11 o'clock in Whitewater." Undeterred, water proofed hikers hit the trail confident of completing the journey before the storm broke. The hike up Whitewater canyon is relatively flat but winds and stumbles around the river course and through the rushes in the creek bed. It was a cool October morning — a breath of fall weather after the dry heat of late September. Six Four Seasons veteran walkers traversed the gravel path from the ranger station (private and unaffected by the business-or lack thereof-in Washington D. C.) upriver for 2.5 miles. Here the ever changing river had meandered to close the ford and log bridge. At this point the call of Ruby's Diner in Morongo became irresistible and the group reversed course to the parking lot. It proved a nice easy hike and as rain drops began to splatter windshields the hikers gave a "thumbs up" to the forecasters for an accurate call on the weather. Thank you for making my first year publishing the Breeze so enjoyable. I was sure the holidays were just a couple of months ago. There are lots of trips coming up this year, including Quartzsite in January, Death Valley in February, baseball spring training in Scottsdale during March, Pismo Beach in April, and Chula Vista in May. Hazel and Dick and Charles and I will be teaming up as wagon masters for a trip to Buellton in September. There is talk of a trip to San Antonio, and also a trip to Albuquerque. As you can tell, we are on the go! We are in dire need of wagon masters. Remember, we can have a couple of club members share the task. Please think about it and pick a destination, and we will be on our way. As most of you know, Charlie and 42 I have been away for three months, and by the time you read this we will have been home for about two weeks, however, I want to thank everyone for filling me in on what has been going on. I have not been at a meeting for quite a while, but you all have been wonderful in keeping me filled in, which helped me write my report. We are still in need of newbies, so come on and give us a try. We meet the second Tuesday of the month in the first section of the Ballroom. We are a fun group and have activities every month. Come to our activities every month or once a year. It is all good. Have a wonderful holiday and a blessed new year. Happy Birthday to our December babies and Happy Anniversary to our December brides and grooms. ~ Maddie Meyer FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2013 | SPORTS & Outdoor ACTIVITIES
