Toastmasters Interest Group Happy Holiday to everyone. Whether your holiday is just ending or it is soon approaching, my wish is for all of my Four Seasons' neighbors to celebrate their holiday season with good health, good cheer, good times, and especially the opportunity to be with family and/or good friends, not to mention, getting "great" presents. Because Christmas is the fourth Wednesday of the month, we will only be having one meeting in December. It will be held on the second Wednesday on Dec. 11, at 6:29 pm in the Lodge's Conference Room. As always, everyone is invited to attend and "audit" a meeting of ours. Come on over, sit through a meeting or two or three to help you determine if this group is right for you. You don't need to be actively working to benefit from improving your speaking skills. You will benefit from improving your speaking ability by giving you confidence to speak up for yourself when otherwise you might have just stayed silent. You will be able to get your point across more succinctly than you might have prior to becoming a Toastmaster. "Try it Mikey, you'll like it!" …to borrow the words from a previously popular TV cereal ad spot. Back in October, we had a very successful Open House where we gave several speeches that all revolved around special occasions. As a result of that meeting we have had one new member join us, and two others have returned for additional meetings… and this was in spite of an awful day and night of wind, rain and chilly weather. It is our intent to restart our Open House program again in February. However, we would love your feedback. Please e-mail me your ideas for what you would prefer we talk/ speak about. I want to hear from you. We'll resume our regular schedule of two screenings in January. Our December screening, on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 6 pm, is the film "The Intouchables" (2012, 112 minutes, French with English subtitles). Here is a brief description from Amazon. com: "Driss (Omar Sy), a Senegalese man living in a Paris slum, applies for a job as caretaker to a wealthy quadriplegic, but all he wants is to get his paper stamped so he can get benefits. Despite his lack of qualifications, he lands the job because of his attitude: Philippe (François Cluzet), the quadriplegic, wants a caretaker who will look at him without pity. As Driss reluctantly learns to move, feed, and clean Philippe, the two men discover a blunt but vital humor that not only bridges the cultural and class divide between them, but gives Philippe a renewed joy in life." This film received great reviews and won numerous awards during the 2012 awards season. The Lodge theatre has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early. We hope to see you there. If you have any questions about the Counter Culture Cinema Club or want to recommend a film, please e-mail Micki Rosen at michelesrosen@gmail.com. ~ Micki Rosen CLUBS & GROUPS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2013 33
