Activities Director Corner What a great year we've had together in 2013! I can't believe it's almost finished already. No tears to be shed however, because we have an exciting and super busy 2014 schedule coming your way. I will be putting into my article next month the BOD approved Annual Calendar, so that you can highlight those events that you are most interested in. We'll have something for everyone. Our last happy tidbits of 2013 include our big Holiday Extravaganza program on Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7, at 6 pm. These shows will be exactly the same including performances from our Four Seasons Choir, Martha Franck's Line Dance Class and a wonderful play called a "Seussified Christmas Carol." Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the shows. Please remember that you must pick up free tickets at the Lodge desk in order to attend your preferred performance. Tickets are first-come-first-served, and there will only be 300 tickets available for each show. Hurry on down! The next awesome show that you really don't want to miss is the amazing international magician from the Magic Castle, Martin Lewis. Thanks to our in-house connections, we are able to get a free show for our residents! Thank you Colin Taylor! David Cooperfield actually uses many of Martin's tricks and effects. If you missed last year's show, when the featured magicians made it "snow" throughout the Ballroom, you definitely don't want to miss this… feel free to bring the grandkids if you like. The show will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 pm the doors will open at 7:15 pm. Starting right off the bat in January will be your opportunity to solidify any New Year's resolutions that you might have made to get healthier and tone up. Our physical exercise company, For-The-Health-Of-It, will be presenting a "Passport to Wellness" event on Saturday, Jan. 4, in the Ballroom. The first session will take place from 10 am to 12 noon showcasing Pilates exercises and Tai Chi with a lunch break from 12 to 1 pm. The Passport to Wellness will continue with more Tai Chi at 1 pm and Kick Boxing from 2 to 3 pm. This 10 By Cindy Graves, Activities Director portion of the event is completely free to you. At 3 to 4 pm there will be a Zumba party, with prizes, fun exhilarating dance-like exercises and more, for only $5 per person. This is a great way to check out our different classes to really tell which ones you'll love to participate in throughout the year. Don't miss this fun event to get you pumped up for 2014. The next event you'll not want miss is a women's event called "The Best Years." This is an afternoon of encouragement sponsored by our Four Seasons Solos and the Four Seasons Red Hat ladies. This event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 1, from 1 to 4 pm in the Ballroom and will include a snack potluck (bring a veggie plate, cheese and crackers, cookies, or any finger foods that you would like to contribute to add a tasty element to the afternoon). To feed your mind and soul, we will have both resident speakers and professionals speaking on issues that are important to women, such as: Clarifying and Redefining Yourself in the Fabulous Second Half of Life • Keeping Healthy in Mind and Body • Food For the Soul: Relaxation, Rejuvenation and Reading • Steeling Yourself for the Battle: The Mindset for Overcoming Cancer • Moving Forward into Recovery After the Loss of a Spouse. This is going to be informative, engaging and an encouraging boost for making the most of this New Year. This event is free to attend, but a sign-up sheet will be out starting Jan. 14. Happy Holidays everyone and Happy New Year! I can't wait to spend another great year with you in 2014! FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2013 | community News
