mystery theater & more The holidays are upon us and even with our own Mystery Theater Christmas Party is on Sun., Dec. 8, at 6 pm in the South Clubhouse, we have much to do in the taking care of business to ensure that our rehearsals for our 2014 Extravaganza, "That's Entertainment," hit the ground running when they start on Tues., Jan. 14. For the first Tuesday of the New Year, Jan. 7, we will still hold our monthly business meeting at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. After the meeting, we will switch gears and stage an open audition for character parts in our June comedy, "Sex Please, We're 60!" Rehearsals for this Michael Parker written farce (for which our group has built quite a following) will commence on the first Tuesday in March, right on the heels of our last stage production of "That's Entertainment." Regarding "TE," which we have affectionately coined the acronym for "That's Entertainment," when rehearsals start they will run twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays from 1 to 4 pm until the week of the show when we will run a daily rehearsal (1 to 4 pm) until the day of our initial stage production. We are extremely proud of this show and the reputation it has garnered within the community in its short existence. We encourage all residents to purchase their tickets VERY early when tickets sales start on Mon., Feb 10. We really do expect that this Feb. 27 through March 2, stage presentation will sell out within its first week of ticket sales. So, if you want to score a great table, the date of Feb. 10, is VERY important! Regarding "Sex Please, We're 60!" we have announced that Lou Evans will be our director and even now, she is hard at work designing the set and all of the details that will make this a first rate production. Should you be a new member of the community and have now found out what it is like to be in a vibrant community where you can put to use those talents that you have accumulated over the years in your skill set into activities that are pure enjoyment, you should check us out. Our Tues., Dec. 3, monthly business meeting, at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom, is a perfect time to meet our members and allow them to meet you. Info., Ginger Burris, 845-9685. drama club It's hard to believe that we are in December already. We have been incredibly successful with our Spring production of "Love, Loss and What I Wore" by Nora Ephron, our May Reader's Theatre and our wonderful premiere production of "Miracle on South Division Street," premiere in that we were the very first group to produce this play on the West Coast. If you missed seeing the play the cast was superb and audience members are still talking about it. Following up we did a Reader's Theatre of the outstanding post WW2 radio drama, "The Third Man." This was first done by the Lux Radio Theatre and Orson Welles in the 50s. Our large cast presented the characters with a distinct flair and to set the stage of post war drama the charming chanteuse, Marian Brown, sang songs of the period to the audience prior to the curtain going up. As usual the audience was treated to complimentary wine and cheese prior to the production which always goes over well. At our November meeting we elected a new slate of officers for the coming two years. President, Marti Steggell; Vice President for Events, Pat Naylor; Vice President for Publicity, Ron Nelson; Treasurer, Harriet Briant; and Secretary, Rose Hermanson. In addition, Immediate Past President Lorene Sowash will provide continuity on the board and two members at large will be selected by the incoming President. The Drama Club continues its appreciation of other drama productions in the area by attending plays at the Footlighters in Redlands; CAST players in Beaumont, and PAPA right here in Banning. In the coming year we are planning to attend professional theatre when possible in Los Angeles and other available venues. Anyone in Sun Lakes with an interest in helping us out with set design and set building is encouraged to contact the Drama Club. Carpenters we're not and any help will be appreciated. You do not have to become a member of the Drama Club to participate. Auditions for our next production will be held on Jan. 6, in the Busroom and Jan. 9, in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom for our Spring Production taking to the "boards" April 3, 4, 5 and 6. The Drama Club Holiday Party will be held in the South Clubhouse on Dec. 20, with the membership using the opportunity to exchange White Elephant gifts with their usual hilarity. If you have any interest in becoming a member please call Rose Hermanson at 769-9810. We meet on the first Thursday of each month in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom at 1 pm. Hope to see you there! social clubs & groups | sun lakes lifestyles | december 2013 | 17
