friends of bocce Our Bocce year has ended. It has been a good year with lots of players having a good time on the courts. If you're curious about which teams won the Fall Tournament, check the bulletin board! All the names are posted for you to see. In addition, the 2014 schedule is posted on the back of the bocce shed. With a few exceptions, your $12 membership in our club is again due for 2014. If your team plans to play the Winter Tournament, entries must be left at 1288 Pleasant Valley by Jan. 3, with play beginning the week of Jan. 13. This is a 7 week tournament, ending with play-offs the week of March 3. When you enter your team don't forget to include your team fee, $3 pp or $12 per team along with your club membership dues. Please include any e-mail addresses with the usual information. CAPTAINS: If your team is complete, please arrange to enter it in one package (total $60). It avoids confusion and possible mistakes. If you are not playing in the winter tournament, the above steps can be done before the spring tournament. The lock on the bocce shed gave up and has been replaced. The combination can be found in the usual place. Happy Holidays! tennis Dec. 18, at 5 pm, is our last pizza and beer mixer for 2013. A big thank you goes out to Bill Lawrence and Peggy Huetten for ordering pizza and taking care of this event all year. If you would like to continue this mixer each month, please contact your new board. Our World Cup Events have been so much fun. It has been wonderful to see so many new members come out and play. Thank you to the following captains for their time and dedication in making sure you had enough players each month: Gail Matejka-Italy; Tracy Galongo-England; Bob Walter-Croatia; and Dave Huetten-Portugal. Thank you to all the players who participated in making this a successful event. MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THE FOLLOWING EVENTS: Sat., Dec. 7, 9 am: Monthly Mixer Sat., Dec. 7, 5 pm: Quarterly meeting and Holiday Dinner/ Dance Wed., Dec. 18, 5 pm: Pizza & Beer Mixer Don't forget the first Saturday of the month for our monthly mixers are now at 9 am. Men and women of all levels of play are welcome. We will be presenting our slate of officers at the fourth quarterly meeting and holiday dinner/dance. You will be voting and we will install the new board members at this meeting. The slate of officers to be presented: Dave Huetten, President; Teri Comerford, Vice President; Verl Smith, 2nd Vice President; Lori Hazelton, Secretary; Peggy Laurel, Treasurer. Our last quarterly meeting and holiday banquet will be Dec. 7, at 5 pm. We are having this catered. The cost is $15 pp and the club will subsidize $5 pp. Please make your checks out to the Tennis Club for $10 and drop in the box at the South Clubhouse. Your dinner selections are tri tip or chicken marsala. There are 32 | sun lakes lifestyles | december 2013 | sports clubs forms at the South Clubhouse for you to fill out for your dinner choice. There will be a sign up sheet at the South Clubhouse and also a place for your dinner selection. The board has purchased two pop up shade covers to cover our stands during events. The president will be in charge of these. If you are in charge of having a tennis event you may get the shade covers from him. We are currently in the process of contacting Banning High School Tennis Team to donate money to them. We are also trying to set up a challenge match against their high school boys' team. We would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to all the current board members, Bob Walter, President; Peggy Huetten, Vice President; Bill Lawrence, 2nd Vice President; Carol Ellis, Secretary; and Dan Hermann, Treasurer for their commitment, time and service.
