Friends we will miss Rosemary E. Bailey was born on February 25, 1925 in Los Angeles, CA. She was the only daughter and the youngest child in the Land family. She and her husband Neal lived a very full life, they belong to the Founders Club of Sun Lakes, and are parents of five daughters, five grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Rosemary enjoyed golf, music, bridge and playing casino slots. She was a proud veteran of WWII serving as a Navy WAVE. A private memorial will be held at the Military Arlington Cemetery in Riverside. We will miss her, but we are thankful to have her in our lives all of these years. As a Navy veteran we wish for "favorable winds and following seas" until we meet her again in heaven. Dorothy Ellis, a long-time resident of the Pass Area, died October 17, 2013 at home surrounded by her family after a valiant 22 year battle with breast cancer. Dorothy was born on April 4, 1929 in Helena, Montana to Morris and Bertha Coil. Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Bruce Ellis, her two daughters, Barbara Ellis Polacek and Susan Ellis Wysocki, their husbands and step-daughter Jeanne Ellis. However, anyone who knew Dorothy knew that the "lights of her life" were her four grandchildren, Amanda, Colin, Drew and Matthew. Dorothy received a Bachelor of Science from Montana State University and Deaconess School of Nursing in Billings, Montana. She also attended the Deaconess School of Nursing in Boston, University of Washington, UCLA and Golden State University where she received her Masters Degree in Nursing Administration. She was also the Head Nurse at the University of Washington, Seattle; the Director of Critical Care at Holy Cross Hospital Mission Hills, the Vice-President of nursing at Desert Hospital, Palm Spring, Associate Administrator Executive VP at Hemet Valley Hospital, Hemet,Chief Operating Officer at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital (SGMH), Banning, and served as Chairman of the Board. After first being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1991, Dorothy became active in various cancer cure and awareness groups. Dorothy's continual determination and compassionate spirit was instrumental in starting the Pass Area Relay for Life that raised over $200,000 in its very first year. In addition to founding the Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Support Group, Dorothy is credited with bringing the VNA/Hospice Program to the Pass Area in 1992 and was honored as the Hospice Hero of 2010. She and Bruce were also recognized as Citizens of the Year in 2005. Dorothy's involvement in Soroptimist International, as well as countless other community organizations, allowed Dorothy to pursue her passion for helping others. Dorothy's strength and perseverance truly embodied that of-a survivor who will be dearly missed. Peter Hall died at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital on October 14, 2013. He was born and raised in Banion, Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy. During World War II, he saw action in the South Pacific as a radioman aboard a destroyer. Upon returning home, he earned a Bachelors Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and later a Masters from UCLA. He met and married his wife Rosemary in Denver, Colorado in 1952. They soon moved to Southern California where their two children were born. Peter worked for the California School System for over thirty years. In 1985, he retired from Citrus College, Glendora, where he was Assistant Business Superintendent. In 1990, he and his wife moved from Lake Arrowhead to Sun Lakes where he enjoyed golf and many other activities. He is survived by his wife, son Robert (Katharina), granddaughter Shannon and three great grandchildren Joshua, Roslynn and Suzanna. He also leaves two sisters, Mary Boone of Ohio and Anne Hawkins of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by daughter, Susan (2007), his parents, seven brothers, and three sisters. Ella Mae Jacob passed away September 29, 2013. She had a wonderful and full life and lived to be 100 years plus. She was born in Nevada, MO, on April 24, 1913. She lived in Sun Lakes for 21 years and will be missed by many friends. Ella Mae is survived by her two daughters, Donna Henning, Pat McClelland, and their husbands Jake and Kelly. She had three granddaughters and many great and great-great grandchildren. Mom is looking down on all of us. Don Kellison passed peacefully in his sleep at home on November 2, 2013. Don was age 76 and a resident of Sun Lakes for 10 years. Don loved the 49ers and bowling. Despite suffering from Multiple Sclerosis since 1990 he managed to bowl in the leagues at Morongo through last fall. Don spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy after retiring he attended college on the G.I. Bill. After graduating he worked for Fluor Corp. in Irvine and retired from Aerojet in Sacramento as a Material Manager. He loved to travel - especially cruising. Don was kind, gentle, brave and loyal. Don is survived by his wife Marilyn and his stepchildren. He was loved then, now and always. 40 | sun lakes lifestyles | december 2013 |
