Mystery Theater & More Even though 2013 was not quite put to bed, at our December business meeting we had a small taste of what it will be like to be run by and entirely new slate of officers. Outgoing president Ginger Burris could not be present due to caring for two very sick canine companions and the meeting was run by our new 2014 president, Bill Shova. Our outgoing treasurer, Martie Steggell, was on a trip so our new 2014 treasurer, Lou Evans, was accepting membership dues for the coming year. New Vice-President Janet Rogers-Stapel was busily immersed in her other role as Producer/Director of the "2014 That's Entertainment" show in laying out the progressing plans for the show, so it's exceptionally good that Peggy Laurel, our outgoing secretary was in attendance to record the meeting minutes. The only new club officer not in attendance was our new 2014 secretary, Lin Volturo. Nevertheless, it was gratifying to see that the club is again in such capable hands as we move into what is shaping up to be an incredibly busy year! Following our 1 pm, Jan. 7, business meeting at approximately 1:30 - 1:45 pm are auditions for parts in our June drama/ comedy, "Sex Please, We're Sixty!" During these auditions we are encouraging people who are not current members of the club (and, of course, members too) to throw their hats into the ring and vie to take part in one unbelievably hilarious play. We have idea who will get which part, so get involved and let's see if we can find a new STAR! Then, the very next week, on Jan. 14, we will start rehearsals for our Feb. 27, 28, March 1 and 2 blockbuster show, "That's' Entertainment!" You'll want to stay tuned for more information about this show in the February Lifestyles, and put the date of Feb. 14, on your calendar as that's the date tickets go on sale for this show in the Main Clubhouse Lobby. One thing that has not changed though, is our philosophy of helping new members get matriculated into what we do. If you are new to Sun Lakes, join us on Jan. 7, to see what we are all about. We'll show you how you can bring excitement back into your life by getting involved in stage production! Look out 2014… here we come! Info., Bill Shova, 845-0547. Drama Club We start the new year with new leadership elected for a two year term of office at the November Business Meeting. After the rousing success of 2013, the new board has its work cut out for it. The Spring play has been chosen and it's "Alone Together Again" a wonderful comedy with a cast of five, three women and two men. Auditions for this play will take place in the bus room on Jan. 6, 1 to 4 pm and Jan. 9, from 9 am to 12 pm. Our director will be veteran theatre man, Michael Owen, whose vast experience promises finely tuned performances and interaction among the cast. All residents here at Sun Lakes are encouraged to come out and audition with the only proviso being that if you are cast you become a member of the Drama Club. We are always looking for new members to bring additional life and variety to the membership. Our new President, Martie Steggell, has hit the ground running and has lots of ideas for exciting programs and activities. Why not join this wonderful group and become part of the action. For more information, call Rose Hermanson at 769-9810; Martie Steggell at 769-3217; or Ron Nelson at 257-4148. Social clubs & groups | sun lakes lifestyles | January 2014 | 17
