Friends of Bocce Happy New Year! If you haven't already done so, it's time to pay your dues for the new year (still cheap at $12 pp) if you plan to play the Winter Tournament. It begins the week of Jan. 13 and ends with playoffs the week of March 3, just seven weeks long. Remember, we play during the day (1, 2, and 3 pm) in the winter in hopes of catching some warm weather or at least some sun! Bundle up and join us on the courts. It is only one hour! Fortunately we have some hardy souls in Sun Lakes so the competition is always fierce! You have until Jan. 3 to enter your team. If you find yourself without a team for the winter, call Dutch, 845-0392. She may have other folks in the same boat and can fix you up with a team. Keep in mind, if you enter a team you must pay the team fee which is also $12, or $3 per teammate. There is some confusion about dues and team fees. When you pay your $12 dues, you are covered for the calendar year. We have four tournaments each year. Each time you enter a team in one of the tournaments, you pay the team fee of $3 pp or $12 per team. Entries go to 1288 Pleasant Valley. There is a box at the door. Tennis A big thank you goes out to Bill Lawrence and Peggy Huetten taking care of the pizza and beer mixer. If you would like to continue this mixer each month please contact your new board. Don't forget the first Saturday of the month for our monthly mixers are now at 9 am. Men and women of all levels of play are welcome. Congratulations to our new slate of officers elected at our fourth quarterly meeting and holiday dinner/dance. Your new officers are as follows: Dave Huetten – President; Teri Comerford – Vice President; Verl Smith – 2nd Vice President; Lori Hazelton – Secretary; Peggy Laurel – Treasurer. The board has purchased two pop up shade covers to cover our stands during events. The president will be in charge of these. If you are in charge of having a tennis event you may get the shade covers from him. I contacted our Banning High School Tennis Team and we are donating $250 to help with the cost of stringing the boys' tennis racquets. I am in contact with the tennis coach Mark Cline and we will be setting up some challenge matches against their boys' high school team. This will not be until February. I have enjoyed keeping everyone abreast of what is happening in the Tennis Club with articles, flyers, and calendars and putting on all the events. It has been fun to work with everyone.
