Good bowling everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and will have a happy, healthy New Year. Info., Dianne, 323-6001 Sun Lakers at Canyon Lanes Do you know the origin of the term "turkey" for three strikes in a row? Around Thanksgiving and Christmas time, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, proprietors would give away live turkeys to bowlers who threw three strikes in a row. If we did that today, bowling centers would be out of business and turkeys would be extinct. The aforementioned statement would certainly hold true for Bruce Herwig, on Nov. 25, and Ken Smelker, on Dec. 2, who both rolled 300 games! Congratulations to these two bowlers. Meanwhile, in the Scratch Series category, Bruce Herwig (700), Andy Toro (688), and George Theil (674) continue competing for Season High Score. Our ladies, Barbara Semic (548), Mitzi Tanaguchi (546), and Bonnie Greene (532) are just as competitive in the same category. The New Year is here, so here is wishing all our Sun Lakes bowlers a healthy and prosperous 2014, and stay safe. Sports clubs | sun lakes lifestyles | January 2014 | 37
