FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK Welcome to 2014. I hope you enjoyed your holidays and all is well with you and your families. The new year signifies the holidays are over and it is time to get back to work. This is not only for the board. It also includes the two primary sources of information and assistance the board relies on. Those are the Delegate Assembly and the Advisory Committees. Many people do not realize the importance of the Delegate Assembly, and that is a shame. The individual Delegates are the back bone to our district system. There are 23 of them, along with 23 alternates, and they work very hard at keeping their districts organized and operational. As an Assembly they are the eyes and ears of the community for the board. It is through the Assembly that many issues are brought up, discussed, and ultimately addressed by the board. Since the Assembly represents all the residents, the board quite often refers matters to them for their consideration and recommendations. They have been very helpful to the Board in making some difficult decisions over the past several years. Advisory Committees are another arm of the Board that is relied on quite heavily. There are 11 of them. These committees were formed for the purpose of advising and making recommendations to the board in many of the critical operational areas of the community. They are made up of volunteers, a management liaison, and a board liaison. By George Moyer, SLCC HOA President The management and board representatives attend meetings as advisors only. They do not set the agendas, run the meetings, or make determinations. They are not voting members of the committee, and are only present to observe and advise on technical procedural or policy issues. Although they do give oral summaries of the meetings, it is the committees who make written recommendations to the board. The volunteers work hard all year round addressing the issues that affect their particular area of responsibility. Some of them work with the infrastructure and upkeep of our community, some organize and operate special events and services, while others oversee finances, marketing and key profit centers. All of them are critical to maintaining the quality of life we have grown to appreciate here at Sun Lakes, and the board relies on their efforts very much. So here we go again, into another year of working together in making Sun Lakes the best possible place to live. Will there be controversy and bumps along the way? That's a given. However, with the help of the Delegate Assembly and our Advisory Committees we are confident that we will find the proper solutions to the problems with which we will be confronted. It is comforting for the board to know it has the knowledge and experience of all these fine people to assist and council us along the way. Start the New Year with a New Look!
