African American Culture Club Our Annual Holiday Dinner/Dance in December was a spectacular success. The women were dressed in beautiful dresses and gowns. The men were dressed in their tuxedos and stylish suits. The Ballroom was decked in its finest, the food was delicious, and we danced the night away. It was a wonderful holiday celebration. Along with the Holiday Gala we participated in Toys for Tots and collected over four large boxes of toys at the Gala that was given to a local institution, Childhelp Merv Griffin Village. We all agreed to make Toys for Tots a part of all future Christmas dinners. February is Black History Month. We are planning a couple of events to celebrate Black History Month. Everyone in our community is encouraged to attend. The first event will be Saturday, Feb. 8, 12 to 2:30 pm, in the Ballroom. We have an informative and inspiring program planned. Southern style hors d' oeuvres and beverages will be served. You will be treated to a taste of our history, Gospel singing, food, and excellent talents. Bring your family, and friends. The cost is $5 per person. All reservations and monies must be received by Jan. 22. On Friday, Feb. 28, from 4 to 8 pm, we will feature "Steppin in Black and White." This is a dress-up ball, featuring dancing, dinner, Music of the Era, and just a "down right'" good time. The cost is $10 per person. The food served will be southern home cooking. Suggested attire black and/or white. Adults only. Reservations and monies must be received by Feb. 10. To make reservations for the above events please contact Roxie Elliott (951) 769- 2517, Brenda Dixon (951) 769-3262, or Johnetta Discroll (951) 922 6039. If you would like to be a part of our organization please contact Betty Ann James (951) 572-5538 or Joyce Allen (951) 769-4354 for more information. ~ Roxie Elliott Taste d'Vine Wine aficionados tell us that to enjoy Italian wine all you have to do is taste it! Join us for a journey through Italy's premier northern wine producing regions where we will taste delicious wines from the Veneto, Piedmont, and Tuscany at our February meeting on the third Thursday, Feb. 20, 6 pm in the Ballroom. Bring an appetizer such as bread or crackers and cheese, your own favorite bottle of wine if you wish, and a glass or two for tasting and sharing. Members $5, Guests $8. ~ Gracy Luna Bridge Join us on Monday for the game of Bridge in the Lodge Card Room at our new time, 12 pm. All levels of Bridge players are welcome. Beginners can take free lessons at 11 am every week. Bridge gives the brain some exercise and we can all use that at our age. We play party type Bridge where we rotate partners. This enables you to meet and play with different people. All of us play at different levels and are learning how to play the game better (practice makes us better). Some of the previous students have learned enough that they now sit in and play. If interested or have questions please call Helen at (951) 845-9312. We will be glad to help you learn the basics of the game and hope that you will join us to either learn how to play, watch or play the game of Bridge. ~ Bill Guy Pacific Heating & Air Conditioning Heating or A/C Tune-Up Call for 4 SEASONS Special!
