Access Control Committee In my Jan. 2014 article, while introducing committee members, I inadvertently left out Eddie Day. Mr. Day is a valued committee member and this was an honest omission. Repeatedly, we have asked those whom have been victims of any crime to report it to our guards and report it to Law Enforcement. Reporting crime to the Hemet Police may not cause a real officer to arrive on scene; but we are contributing data for their consumption and to assist in establishing crime patterns. Your singular report may trigger, or be the lynchpin, to a larger criminal puzzle; possibly leading to an arrest. This also applies to residents near Lopez and Stephenson, where there have been repeated incidences of unlawful entry and suspected criminal activity. Please call law enforcement whenever you see suspicious activity. Some folks ask why community alerts are not published more often. The answer is: we don't want to trivialize the importance of the document. We, however, are poised to issue an alert whenever it is warranted. Another issue has to do with confidentiality. Some residents report criminal activity, but don't want others to know that they made the report. We respect that and will honor their requests. On the other hand, gossip and half truths occasionally circulate in the community. The problem with rumors is that they can cause a more problematic situation which we should strive to avoid. We ask that residents not be part of the problem, through gossip, but part of the solution, through revelation and education. As we go to press-time the IRS warns of a scam to defraud senior citizens. Scam artists are demanding money over the phone for late taxes; and seniors are being conned into paying criminals. Please be on the alert for such calls. The Access Control Committee is working on some important security upgrades that will be advanced to the Board of Directors in the very near future. We decided to put off this repair from last year but now the time has come to make this major repair. The good news is that we only have to do this every 10 years. Next on the agenda is finally closing off the west side of our community from unwanted visitors. The boulders we placed along the border has all but eliminated vehicle incursion but has not slowed foot traffic. Recently we have seen attempted movement of the boulders as well. Our longer range solution of eight foot fencing is progressing but impeded by owner issues of adjacent properties. We continue to work on this issue and have also identified a contractor that will repair attempts to destroy the fencing once it is installed. Our forecast is four to eight weeks of preparation before the actual solution is put to practice. Other important projects in work are the trapping, safe removal and relocation of unwanted animals, control of insects concurrent with irrigation, and the refurbishment of the of the Lodge exterior. An important long range project is the upgrade and improvement of the outside plaza and barbeque facility to encourage and provide expanded use. Stay tuned for more to come.
