Golf Club THERE'S A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN… Well, maybe not a sheriff, but a marshal. Yes, a marshal! A Golf Course Marshal, also known as a Players Assistant or a Course Ranger. The title may vary but the duties remain the same. On Tues., Jan. 7, a marshal was introduced at our first event of the season. Mr. Jay Robinson volunteered to serve as Marshal for a Low Net Tournament round. As it is with most everything that we do at our club, volunteers will staff the program. Mr. Robinson was the first person to serve as a marshal because he planted the seed and helped create the program. This is just one of several initiatives to be introduced to our membership for this year and there is optimism in the air that the program will flourish, gain momentum and produce positive results. However, volunteers will be needed for the program to succeed long term. Therefore, we ask that anyone interested in serving as a marshal, whether you serve once a year or once a month, please contact Henry Negrete. The position reports to the president of the golf club. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a marshal? Law and order? Authority? Everyone should know that marshaling is not a new concept, but it is a new feature being installed in our golf program here at Four Seasons. Most courses throughout the country use some form of marshaling to help patrol the golf course, keep the pace of play up and perform a variety of duties designed to help golfers actively involved in play. Most courses choose a variety of titles for the person on site performing traditional marshaling duties. They opt to be politically correct by using customer friendly titles for an old program, with emphasis clearly focused on customer service. No matter what the title, the duties remain the same, to ensure golfers are keeping pace with the speed of play. From the beginning, our club has played the game of golf through the careful application of rules, honor and tradition. We have built a solid foundation for our membership and will continue to build and grow. And, of course, in order to support the growth, we need volunteers. Our club, the Hemet Four Seasons Golf Club must continue to grow, but we can only blossom if we have volunteers step up to the plate and support our initiatives. Please support our marshal program. From the Rules Chair, Cliff Post: Golf is the only sport I can think of that requires its participants to monitor their own adherence to the rules. Other sports reward players who cheat. Golf acknowledges those who turn themselves in. The other day I was playing with some friends and on the 11th hole one of them called a penalty on himself for double hitting his ball. Nobody saw it but him. Someone once said, "The measure of a person is what he or she does when no one is looking." He lost the hole but won everyone's respect. From the Social Chair, Ellen Walsh: In 2014 the Golf Club is planning the following social events: President's Cup Awards Banquet - Sat., March 22 Memorial Day BBQ - Tues., May 27 Memorial Tournament Awards Banquet - Sat., June 21 Labor Day BBQ - Tues., Sept. 2 Founders Day & Club Championship Awards Banquet - Sat., Nov. 15 The usual putting, chipping and driving contests will be available at the banquet events. Further details regarding the menu and prices for these events will be available soon. We look forward to a year full of fellowship and great times.
