Fine Arts & Crafts Our next meeting is on Thurs., Feb. 20 at 1 pm in the Arts and Crafts Room. The demonstration will be on Pinterest by Barbara Kenyon who will show us what this exciting venue is and how it can be used for your creative projects. Our Featured Artist for the month of February is Florence Jonas O'Hirok. She was born and raised in New York City and was married to John J. Jonas. She has three children, seven grand-children and one great-grandchild. She is currently married to T. E. O'Hirok. "Flo's" art education includes Four Seasons classes with Barbara Kenyon, Lois Stipp, Andre Lohnert and other classes with the Hemet Valley Art association and various classes in Virginia, New Jersey and New York. She has been exhibiting her artwork from 1980-2013 which includes local shows and several on the East Coast. Her paintings and drawings can be found in several collections in the United States and in Sydney, Australia. Flo's artist statement is below: "About my work… In an effort to be honest and open, I express what I am, what I see and feel, as well as what I believe and intuit. To say that my art "Jenny" can reflect the state of my soul would not be an exaggeration. Over the years it has revealed to me parts of self that had been hidden, thereby allowing insight for spiritual growth. Sometimes the work is a meditation or just an idea and sometimes a response to beauty or lack of beauty in a person, place or situation. What I see, feel, believe and understand is freely transformed into line, shape and color. I hope that my work is never coy or timid. A love of color and the human form, as well as attention to the inner life can often be seen. A purely nonrepresentational mode of painting is at once a more challenging and liberating method of expression that I sometimes use. "The content of the work of art may not always be evident nor understood by the observer but it should be there for it to be called a work of fine art. Therefore, my goal has been to go beyond the level of technical skill to achieve what is unique, honest and very personal. For more years than I care to admit, I have drawn, painted, printed and sculpted, whatever modus operandi, creating art is pure joy!" In the spring of 2014, we will have our first showing on the gallery wall and in the display case. It will feature crafts and art work from our talented residents at Four Seasons. The exhibition will change monthly. To display your creative work, a sign-up sheet will be available to be filled out and will be placed in a box in the lobby. At the monthly Arts and Craft Club meeting there will be a drawing from the box for the names of those selected to display their work for the upcoming month. Anyone from the community can participate upon becoming a member of the club. For more information, please contact Nancy Hawkins (nhawk2blue@ aol.com). Our talented and experienced teachers offer many classes including acrylics, tole painting, tatting, memoir writing, watercolor, drawing, calligraphy and more. For information about these classes and upcoming workshops, please check the clipboards and sign up in the arts and crafts room. Please contact Barbara Kenyon at (951) 537-8779 with any questions about our club and its activities. Keep inspired! "Busy Cafe" | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | February 2014 | 24
