and then, assisted by other volunteers,
turned the Ballroom into a magical
Parisian scene. After 2014 was ushered
in, committee members and other
helpers stayed until 2 am to undo all
those months of hard work. These are
all volunteer residents and it is truly a
labor of love.
As an official HOA committee, the
Social Committee is a non-profit entity.
All costs are covered by ticket sales, and
if there is any money left after expenses
are paid for an event, it must be returned
to the General Fund. Because most of
the work is done by volunteers, residents
get a "lot of bang for the buck," as food,
entertainment and decorations must be
paid for by the ticket sales. The committee
doesn't really know what the budget will
be for a given event until they know how
many tickets have been sold. While the
planning is done well in advance, the
final budget isn't known until the last
minute, so often adjustments have to be
made depending on the available funds.
In 2014, get ready to wear your beads
and masks at Mardi Gras in March,
become a fashionista at the Fashion Show
and Tea in May, hula hardy at the Luau in
June, polish those cowboy boots for the
Country Western Dance in August, get
your scare on at the Halloween Dinner
Dance in October and of course, dance
the night away at the always gala New
Year's Eve Party on Dec 31!
The six members of the Social
Committee are: Melody Seewoster,
Chairperson; Verlette Brummel, Betty
Ann James, Mary Primack, Tonya
Thornton and Susan Wilson. Also, the
committee couldn't function without
the help of Treasurer Peggy Ligori and
Secretary Bernadette Chance, as well as
Sandra Buelna who is a valued member
of the subcommittee.
