Seasoned Solos #2 Things are looking up for our senior singles group as the New Year gets started. Our first Suggestion Meeting went very well. We had ten enthusiastic senior singles show up with lots of great ideas. Our member Chris P. started a "Message Board" for our group. As a Four Seasons Seasoned Solo you can e-mail Chris at cpettitone@roadrunner. com she will send you the link to chat on the "Message Board" it is a safe and fun way to communicate. This is a great way to let the group know of special events, needs, invites, etc. Try it you'll like it! This month on Tues., March 18, at 5 pm, let's get our group together at the Music on the Plaza. Please purchase your tickets at the Lodge Desk. They are just $5 each (check only). Golf cart space is limited. I will bring mine and fly an "American Flag". This way I will bring a couple of small tables to tailgate (Party)! Bring your favorite beverage (remember no glass) a chair, and a snack to share. On Feb. 28, at 2 pm, we will meet at the Harvard Brickyard Bar & Grill for a Happy Hour Lunch (seniors get an extra 10 percent off) Suggestion Meeting, and of course a lot of great conversation. Let's all join in on the fun times, and offer up some new suggestions. Known around town as the "Purse Lady," Mary has been designing and creating her own clothing and fashion accessories since the age of twelve. Having always carried around a sketchbook for drawing fashions and patterns, she began making formals for friends in high school. Unfortunately, Juvenile Diabetes struck her as a teenager, and the adversities of the disease, and an early marriage, kept her from the pursuit of continuing her education in art and fashion design. Mary worked for major companies in Human Resources, including JC Penney Company for twenty years. After returning to work for Hemet Unified School District, she finally retired in 2007. Mary chose to move to Four Seasons and begin a new life nine years ago. She is a breast cancer survivor, has recently remarried, and is the happiest she has been in years. She has also had a complete re-birth of her artistic abilities and has decided to focus on expanding her creative options in 2014. Mary says her inspiration comes from many sources; "Sometimes I start with an interesting object, like a piece of jewelry, draw a simple design from it, then take it to my computer in Photoshop and just play around until I get the look I want. Then I use embroidery software to convert the design for machine stitching." Mary also incorporates techniques of "Free Style" machine embroidery, fabric collage, and the use of fabric paper in her designs. Becoming proficient in Photoshop Elements is Mary's latest endeavor. She has taken several on-line classes and loves creating her own painted backgrounds, utilizing Photoshop Elements' artistic features such as Kaleidoscope, drawing and painting from a Wacom Tablet, and Photoshop Brushes to enhance her artwork. She then prints the images on fabric using an Epsom Ink Jet printer with "Dura Bright Inks" to produce washable pieces of cloth for use in her original handbags. Mary shows and sells her handbags and accessories at the Four Seasons craft fairs and at other craft festivals. Our talented and experienced teachers offer many classes including acrylics, tole painting, tatting, memoir writing, watercolor, drawing, calligraphy and more. For information about these classes and upcoming workshops, check the clipboards and sign up in the arts and crafts room. Please contact Barbara Kenyon (951) 537-8779 for any questions about our club and its activities. Stay inspired.
