Below are photos from our recent Bocce Banquet. Bocce Club From the President – Henry Negrete: Looking at the morning news I am constantly reminded that we are truly blessed and are extremely fortunate to live in a great community such as ours. Folks back in the Midwest and the East Cost continue to suffer through miserable freezing conditions while we occupy ourselves on the golf course playing golf in temperatures consistent with summer weather. We love to play and are able to play because we live in sunny Southern California where conditions have a close resemblance to God's Country. How lucky we are. Remembering who we are and what we are about is something to keep in mind. We most definitely are an active senior community with a great number of residents with golf aspirations. We have a club rich in talent including several members who posses great skills. And I realize that a good number of our members are simply casual golfers. Combined, we form a social club content with what the club has to offer and have little appetite for doing anything that could disturb our comfortable setting. From the moment I took office, I realized our club needed changes in specific areas and most related to the manner in which we play the game. Slow play has definitely taken a front seat in most everyone's wish list. We know we have in place traditional systems and procedures that have been in place for nearly a decade. And our membership, I am constantly reminded is a senior, mature audience set in their ways and not open to change. Change, however, is long overdue. Therefore, adjustments to our program are necessary in order to alleviate the situation. Is this the panacea many of us are looking for? The answer is no. But, we must continue to try and make things better. We have introduced a couple of new features to our Tuesday Golf format. Unfortunately, it appears some folks are resisting any change at all. Please think of what is being done and think of where we have been. We ask everyone to please cooperate with these changes. Only together, as a group, can we effect change. Nothing is written in stone and we can always go back to the drawing board. But please, work with us, and I promise, you all will be rewarded. From the Tournament Chair – Addis Scott: To play in our Tuesday games, you may sign up at our prior golf event, or sign-up on the sheet located in the Game Room at the Lodge, by noon on Sunday. For cancellation or late sign-up, please contact Scotty at (951) 926-6131, or by email at AddisScott9@aol.com. Our March 2014 Game Schedule is: 3/4, 8 am: (T) – Low Net / Low Gross by Flight – Post as Tournament 3/11, 8 am: Away Game – Computer Balanced Mixed Flight Team Scramble (No consecutive shots by same player) Menefee Lakes – Lake Course 3/18, 8 am: Three Hole Throw-Out, 1 par-5, 1 par-4 & 1 par-3 3/25, 8 am: Partners - Odd / Even – Lowest Low Net Score (computer assigned partners) From the Membership Chair – Ross Thomas: We are very pleased to welcome the following new members and returning members to the club: Richard Sitter, Dennis James, Debbie James, Gary Hopper and Dave Perrault. We have 173 members and nearly half are participating in our weekly Tuesday events. The club continues to welcome men and women of all levels of play from newbies on up. New member applications are available from the Lodge receptionist. Should you have questions about joining our club, please contact Ross Thomas, (951) 325-2019 or e-mail rthomaspa@yahoo.com. From the Rules Chair – Cliff Post: We are lucky that we only have one type of water holes. Red-staked lateral water hazards. But maybe a review of how you can take relief is in order. 1. From where you hit the shot. 2. Two clubs from the place that the ball last crossed the hazard boundary. 3. From where the ball initially crossed the hazard boundary. Two club lengths 4. From a line, straight back as far as you want, keeping the entrance and the pin in line. 5. From the other side of the hazard two club lengths, no closer to the pin, keeping the spot and the pin in line. 6. From the designated drop area. Wow. That's a lot of decisions! In most cases we just drop the ball from where it last entered the hazard within two club lengths. All the choices require a one-stroke penalty. From the Social Chair – Ellen Walsh: On Sat., March 22, Four Seasons Golfers have the opportunity to join together to celebrate the incredible good fortune of being able to play the wonderful game of golf right here in our community. The celebration begins at 5:30 pm in the Lodge Ballroom wherein you will be able to test your skill at chipping, putting and the long drive. Francisco will prepare his wonderful Barcelona Chicken served over rice pilaf along with spring steamed vegetables. Brownies and ice cream will finish the evening. Be prepared to share photographs of your wedding. Please forward them to ewalsh1321@gmail.com. The tickets for this fun evening will be just $15 per person. These tickets will be available at the golf club starting on Tues., March 4. Pickleball It's cold in the morning, but that doesn't stop those who play pickleball! On any given Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning, beginning at 7:30 am, you can find a group at the pickleball courts. Pickleball is played on a scaled down size tennis court, with a small racket and a hard wiffle-like ball. We play doubles and switch partners after every game. The hardest part is keeping score! We are open to all players, all skill levels and we have extra rackets and balls, so come on out, we'll teach you how to play. We also like to get together socially. For more information, please contact Maggie Aguirre at (951) 325-8116 or Leonard Gleason at (714) 318-4591. Come on out and join the fun.
