5 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | March 2014 | | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | March 2014 | 6 The "Annual Membership Meeting" will be held next month on Wed., April 23. This year, there are four positions up for re-election. By the time you read this article, a "Notice of Election" and "Request for Candidates" forms were mailed out to all Owners of Record. All Owners in good standing, and those who closed escrow prior to the mailing date of the notice, will be eligible to vote. The "Notice of Election" contains election information and FAQ's. Also attached was a "Request for Candidates" form for anyone interested in volunteering to run for the Board. In the February News Magazine, on pages 4 & 5, the President's message and my article mention some recommendations for those seeking to run for the Board. Later this month, the Annual Meeting Notice and "Ballots" will be mailed out and a "Meet the Candidates" night is tentatively scheduled for April 3. This is a good opportunity for owners to hear the views of the candidates which should be helpful in making your selection of who you will vote for. It is very important that you exercise your rights as an owner and Vote! If you have any questions, please stop by the Lodge. I or my Assistant General Manager Mari Salazar will be happy to answer your questions. I cannot stress how important this vote is to the homeowners association, so please vote! Yard Maintenance: This is the time of the year that we want to send a friendly reminder to all owners to take a look at their yards and perform any needed maintenance, such as trimming shrubs back off of the sidewalk, weed removal, dead limb/plant replacement, etc. Also, don't forget to check your sprinklers for proper operation and water flow as we are definitely in a "drought year" this year. We appreciate your help in advance. Handicap Parking at the Lodge: If you have a Handicap Placard, please make sure it is displayed in view when parking in the handicap spaces in front of the Lodge. The Hemet Volunteer Citizen's Patrol comes in regularly and WILL issue a citation and it's not cheap! Lastly, I want to thank all of the residents that had positive feedback on my February article. The residents I spoke with appreciated the input and have talked to their neighbors with good results! Not every battle will be won, but the effort is the glue that can mend the fence! We have a unique climate in Hemet and you want to get the right advice as to what can withstand and even flourish in the heat of our summers. This nursery has a wide selection of plants, shrubs and trees and gives great advice. The Chuck Schoenknecht and Ward Paul Collection of Murano Glass includes twenty- five pieces from Murano, Italy, an area known for the glassmaker's art. The 1950s and 1960s "contemporary style," also known as mid-century modern or retro, was designed to complement the sleek furniture and architecture of the period. The "hand-made" pieces are prized for their bright colors, use of mica and unusual shapes. Chuck and Ward have collected art for more than 40 years. The Murano glass display represents a small part of their collection. Both are retired teachers who now appraise art and antiques throughout the country. They are associated with seven museums to which they have donated large parts of their collections. The Dan and Carolyn Straub Art Collection is multicultural. Their collection of Retablo, or Mexican folk art painting, is rare since the religious art can no longer be brought across the border. The iconic images of saints were intended to show the owner's devotion and as a means of giving thanks for protection. The Straubs have also shared the works of several artists known for their mastery of a specific genre. Mike Carroll, an accomplished medical artist, moved to Hawaii to paint landscapes and images of Hawaiian culture and lifestyle. Junichiro Sekino, a master of Japanese woodblock, attained international recognition during his lifetime. His talent enabled him to reach the highest level of woodblock carving and printing. Lila Hahn, a highly-acclaimed batik artist, focused her work on Native-American culture of the Southwest. She intended her work to "express and respect Native American traditions and the beauty of Mother Nature." Three other artists are represented in the Straub collection: French artist Honoré Daumier, a 19th century political satirist, Hans Ressdorf, a German- born artist who immigrated to the United States and painted European and Southwest themes, and Les Hawks, known for his paintings of Southwest Native Americans and Hispanics and for his landscapes. Stewart Mortensen has collected Norman Rockwell art for more than 30 years. Twelve of Mortensen's collection of autographed and numbered prints are on display, along with a photograph of Rockwell. Rockwell, a prolific artist and illustrator who portrayed American culture, became well-known for his cover art produced for the Saturday Evening Post and Boys Life Magazine, a Boy Scout publication. His body of work included the pictorial representation of injustice during the civil rights era and paintings of presidents and world leaders. He was presented with the Presidential Medal of freedom for his "vivid and affectionate portraits of our country." The art is currently on display and available for viewing Fridays from 2 to 7 pm, Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 3 pm at the Esplanade Art Center, located at 2181 W. Esplanade Avenue (at Sanderson), San Jacinto. The show will continue through March 23. Donations appreciated. Eclectic Art Collection at DVAC
