The Spring Art Show will be Sat., March 8, in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom from 11 am to 3:45 pm. Many Art League members will have their artwork on display there, and it is a great opportunity to see their beautiful work. Visitors will also have an opportunity to vote for their favorite piece of artwork. All residents and their guests are invited to attend FREE! Sun Lakes Artist Bridgette Greb will demonstrate her pastel technique at the General Meeting on Sun., March 16, at 2 pm at the South Clubhouse. All residents are invited. It will be a very interesting demonstration! We hope to see you there and know you will enjoy your visit. The winners of the mini-show at the January General Meeting were as follows: 1st, Marge Amstadter; 2nd, Sheila Bryan; 3rd, June Jasman. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners were chosen by those attending the meeting. The Best of Show winner was Betty Jo Ford chosen by David Fairrington, the demo artist at the meeting. Art classes in various mediums are on the first four Mondays in the Main Clubhouse Arts and Crafts Room from 9 am to 12 noon. The guest artist for March is Bhadraji (Bud) Jayatilaka, who will teach watercolors. This class will be March 3, 10, 17, and 24, and is for all levels of experience. The fee is $40 for the month for members and $45 for non-members. To sign up for the class with Bud or for more information, please contact Socorro Castellano at 769-9581. In addition to the monthly meetings with the mini-shows and Monday morning art classes, the Art League has other activities which include special workshops, Spring and Fall juried art shows, bus trips to art-related locations, golf cart decorating for the 4th of July parade and social events. All Sun Lakes residents are invited to join the Art League. The dues are $15 per year. For players new to chess, we recommend learning the fundamentals of the game before engaging in play with others. There are excellent tutorials on YouTube and throughout the Internet which will give you the needed skills to begin playing. Consider watching "Learn to Play Chess in 12 Minutes - The Basics (part 1)" on YouTube. Some players have volunteered to give a one hour lesson by appointment. The game does not earn Master Points, but it allows players to enjoy the experience of duplicate bridge without the competitive stress that sometimes occurs in sanctioned games. Cost is $25 per year and per couple/pair. This is a great way to meet other bridge players.
