health & spoRts Clubs | sun lakes lIfestyles | MaRCh 2014 | 39 Losing weight takes personal commitment and a decision to do things differently which can be difficult to maintain on your own. The collective goal to lose weight is a powerful force. Drive and energy generated by TOPS group of like minded individuals can inspire and motivate you. The following TOPS members are learning how sensible nutrition, portion control and regular physical activity are making a difference in their lives. They are TOPS Best Losers for the month: Beverly Reneau, John Kobes, Suzanne Strauss, Iris Mink, Jeanie Dana, Nancy Davis, Lou Evans, Rosemarie Kobes, Jan Sandberg, Marla Henrich, Darleen Moxon, and Carol White. Congratulations! KOPS (Keep Off Pound Sensibly) at goal or under are: Alma Bolla, Pat Bonarigo, Sandy Burgon, Linda Callahan, Mary Ellen Carroll, Donna Leone, and Dorothy Monterville. Great job! Congratulations to Marla Henrich and Ron Chesnut winners of our monthly drawing. March is a very exciting month for our TOPS chapter, packed full of wonderful programs and events. Our yearly awards will be held on March 20 with a big celebration for the Best Losers of 2012. We will be crowning our chapter Royalty, recognizing all of our winners in each weight division and honoring all KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly). A key element that sets TOPS apart is our recognition. Celebrating our members' success is important whether they are losing or maintaining their goal. Sun Lakes residents are invited to attend one meeting free of charge. TOPS yearly membership fees are only $28 with a monthly magazine. We meet on Thursday at the South Clubhouse with weigh-ins starting at 9 am and meeting 10-11 am. Come join us! For information contact Rosalee at 845-9313. We're talking USTA tennis against other Inland Empire clubs. The season is wrapping up in the middle of March but there is still time to see five good home matches. These matches are at the Sun Lakes south courts and the players love an audience. We're not playing in any 55+ league. We're playing the kids so the matches are tough. There are only four home matches left on the winter schedule so come out and make some noise. FANS NEEDED FOR THESE GAMES!!! 3/1 Women's home match vs. Canyon Crest, Noon 3/2 Men's home match vs. Canyon Crest, 11 am 3/8 Women's home match vs. Upland, Noon 3/9 Mixed doubles home match vs. Andulka, 10 am We'll be celebrating St. Patrick's Day on March 19 with a traditional corned beef and tennis event. Regular tennis, beer and pizza will return on April 16 at 5:30 and run every Wednesday through October. If you paid your annual dues by Feb. 15, watch for your club membership book. It will have member names and phone numbers as well as a complete calendar of club events for the year. As an incentive to get dues in on time, we told members that there would be a prize drawing open to all of those who paid by Jan. 31. The drawing was held and the winner of a free private lesson was Joe Shaw. Joe's lesson was donated by Tracy Galongo. Don't forget that there is drop-in tennis that is open to all residents every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. The winter start time is 3 pm and the goal is fun and exercise.
