Aggressive lung cancer took a wonderful man from us. His final moments at home were in the arms of his wife Betty, of sixty years. They were childhood sweethearts. Ed spent four years in the Navy during the Korean War. He and his family moved to California in 1963 from Chicago. Ed worked in the piping engineering firms. They moved to Sun Lakes in 1990. Ed enjoyed spending time with his friends, loved golf, reading, TV, model ship building and puzzles. Most of all his family came first to him. His two children and three grandchildren always came to him for his wisdom and advice. He will be missed beyond words and loved forever. Mary Ellen Jolly passed away January 18, 2014 in Tracy, CA after a short illness. Mary was born in Bronson, Michigan on September 18, 1923 to Grace and Everett Thurber. She was preceded in death by her husband James Archer Jolly on January 20, 2009. In 1988 they moved from Modesto to San Diego when she and Jim retired. In 2000 they moved to Sun Lakes. Mary moved back up North to Tracy, near Modesto to be near two of her children. In their 65 years of marriage they moved 21 times. Banning, being their longest stay. Many of their moves were during Jim's Navy Career. Molly, as she was called by her friends, was an excellent bridge player, did beautiful cross-stich, quilting, appliqué and all kinds of crafts. She was never without a needle and thread in her hand and a smile on her face. She leaves behind many friends she acquired during 65 years of marriage and stayed in touch with most of them. Granny, to her family, is survived by her five children Cheri Erwin, David, Keith, James Jr., and Meredith Berry. She had 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind sisters-in- law Carol Summers and Dorothy Chapman both of Rome City, IN and brother-in-law Dick Jolly of MO and countless nieces and nephews of both sides of their families. Lawrence Robert "Larry" Keenen, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, in Thousand Oaks, CA. Born Nov. 10, 1926, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Erma Keenen. He grew up in rural areas of New York and Pennsylvania where he attended St. Patrick's school in Salamanca, NY, through seventh grade. His family then moved to Brockway where he attended local schools and graduated from high school and met and married Sara Jane Stewart. She preceded him in death in 2011 after 61 years of marriage. He had many fond memories of Brockway and always shared stories about friends, families and experiences throughout his life. At age 17, he joined the U.S. Navy where he attended radio and gunnery school and upon graduation, was assigned to an air sea rescue squadron as a navigator flying Lockheed PBM. He took advantage of the GI bill upon completion of his service and graduated from Penn State in 1950 with a degree in electrical engineering. He spent his career working for a number of electronic manufacturing firms in sales and marketing management positions with companies such as Honeywell, Beckman, Robertshaw, Sigma Instruments, Gould, IEE and Densitron America where he retired in 1991 as President and CEO. Upon retirement, he enjoyed coin collecting where he became proficient in eBay transactions, family genealogy and began Keenen Tax Service where he supported families in the Sun Lakes community that they enjoyed for many years. He was a loving husband and father who was always willing to sacrifice for the benefit of family. He worked hard to make sure his family was well prepared for their life journeys and gave of himself freely. He is survived by his children Debbie, Tim, Terry; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family is planning on hosting a celebration of life and burial in Brookville, later in the year for family and friends.
