The distinguished duffers have continued to meet and play Friday mornings at local courses. Larry Zimmerman has taken over coordinating the weekly locations and tee times for the group. he has done an excellent job of this and seeks out a greater variety of locations for the group to play at. Larry is the person you need to contact (hopefully by Wednesday) of the week the event is scheduled should you wish to participate. Larry has taken over for me as i have not been able to join recently the "duffers" due to some orthopedic problems. as it is March, the weather should be starting to warm up and benefit those of us with arthritic joint problems. Contact Larry Zimmerman at zzman1028@yahoo.com or (909) 553- 2798. Feel free to call me at (951) 797-3563. ~ Tim Jacobson a handful of hearty hikers strolled up Mt. roubideaux on a balmy January day. While the ever present winds were blowing through Beaumont, on the mountain the air was calm and hikers were in shorts and T-shirts. The paved paths were filled with baby strollers and hill toppers lugging empty water bottles due to the 80-degree temperatures. The wind of the previous days had cleared the skies in the inland empire and the views from all sides of the mountain captured the attention of many climbers. The "No Lunch Bunch" hiked up Pipes Canyon at the end of the month. Breaking with tradition, they did enjoy a nice lunch afterwards. To find out where else we are hiking in 2014 call or e-mail Lynette. ~ Leonard Tavernetti SPORTS & OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2014 43 42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2014 | SPORTS & OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES Hearty Hikers We are a group of residents who participate in rV trips. in the past we have traveled to many fun and interesting places. if you would like further information on future trips, you can contact ann Williams at awilymz@att.net to be added to the e-mail list. you can also attend one of our meetings the second Tuesday of the month in the Ballroom at 6 pm. ~ Rick Brower All Seasons RV Club The Winter 2013 Four seasons Paddle Tennis doubles Tournament in January was one of the most exciting matches ever. all of the eight teams were very closely balanced and the matches were all very close. We were very lucky weather-wise; there were just a few clouds. The weather did get noticeably colder during the final match but that didn't discourage anyone from staying to the end. The rules: The first team in a match to win five games wins the match. all of the match scores were either 5-3 or 5-2. This was a double-elimination so a team that loses two matches is out. There were some seasoned teams like Terry Miller/ gary Campanella and alan Chan/Niles sundstrom as well as some newbies like Mike Flowers/dan anguiano and garret Warman/rick Loney. The other teams were: Phil harris/ Bill russell; richard Carusco/Paco Paez; Michael rothberg/ robert Norwood; robert garder/raul Bautista. There were a couple of upsets including some newbies beating some well established players. some of the players can only practice once a week while others take advantage of the full paddle tennis schedule. in several matches practice time didn't matter which lead to some upsets. The finals pitted the teams of Terry Miller/gary Campanella against richard Carusco/Paco Paez. Throughout the tournament, Terry and gary never lost a match! Congratulations Terry and gary. Court times: official - Wed./Fri./sun. – 2 to 4 pm; unofficial - Fri./sun. – 8:30 to 10:30 am.
