There are many reasons why it is a good idea to learn how to program and use the Frs radios we have in the Four seasons Communications group. The first and foremost would be for emergency reasons: earthquakes, floods, fires, any emergency in your home and you are alone, or away from your home. if there is an earthquake, for example, we have ePP groups that would be in your neighborhood, trying to help with any casualties. hopefully, you would belong to one of these many groups. Come to either the Neighborhood Watch meetings, or our monthly ePP meetings for more information on the different groups; volunteers are needed. a main reason it would be good to know how to use the radios (in case of emergencies), is that cell phones and land lines could NoT be working. so these radios may be our only means of quick communication. Quickness and safety would be the key here. The fact that they allow immediate access to local hospitals and first responder service organizations, i.e. , those that can provide all types of assistance regardless of the situation. in addition, these radios communicate very well with our ham radio operators to expand the coverage area allowing for communication even in very remotest of areas. There are other reasons, such as just good old fashioned fun. Taking them on trips with you for example. Perhaps you're traveling with a group, and you reach an area where there is no cell phone reception. Wouldn't it be great to be able to all connect up via radio, so no one gets lost? Because our group consists of all volunteers with a desire and goals to help the community, being part of this group means you are actually giving back to the community while receiving a benefit as well. one of the main benefits that you receive is what is most important during an emergency, the fact that you have the ability to take care of yourself, and your family first, and then, be in a position to help others. Please consider being a part of our group, as we can always use more volunteer members. it is an opportunity to have fun while you're learning something new. our website is W6FsB.com, meetings are held in the ballroom on the last Friday of the month at 10 am. ~ Judie Kaczoroski 34 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2014 | CLUBS & GROUPS CLUBS & GROUPS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2014 35 The Bereavement group has resumed and as before, the healing process has begun. What amazing gifts human beings can be to each other. Participants come to the group hesitant, tentative, unsure of themselves and the group itself. They are concerned that there may be something wrong with them because they can't "get over it" and they still cry "too much." and they worry that they are weak for coming to a bereavement group. But almost immediately, when they began to listen to the others, they realize that they are not broken or weak or "too sad." They are just a person with a wrenching loss who is doing what human beings are meant to do: grieve. and as they listen and talk the healing journey begins. They are not surprised by the tears, but often marvel at how soon laughter begins. and the bonds between all of us grow and flourish. if you have a loss in your life that is causing you unhappiness or worry, come join us. your loss does not have to be a death. divorce, retirement, or leaving a beloved home can trigger great sadness and disorientation. The Bereavement group meets on Mondays from 1 to 3 pm in the Crafts room at the Lodge. We make the room private to increase comfort and intimacy. We welcome you. you may reach me at (951) 922-0934 or e-mail lauriemlarson425@gmail. com. ~ Laurie Larson To our potential students of the spanish Bible class, there is a main theme that will develop during future classes. The main theme is "What does the Bible really TeaCh?" and very interesting and important questions will be answered like: What's the truth about god? Why do we grow old and eventually die? Why does god allow all the suffering which gets worse everyday? how will armageddon affect us? These questions and many more will be answered by the scriptures we will study. do you have any questions that you want the Bible to answer for you? Then join us every Tuesday at 7 pm. For more information you can call me at (951) 769-4238. ask for Tim Lovato. ~ Timoteo Lovato Bereavement Group Spanish Bible Class Amateur Radio Club "Web sue fraffly gled yorkered calm." do you know what this means, or what language it is? What if you heard this and had to write it down? Well, the words are spelled the way they sound, (phonetically), and it's the Fraffly dialect used in a certain part of england, spoken with closed lips. it means: "We're so frightfully glad you could come." understanding and translating english language dialects can be challenging. But imagine the confusion when millions of people from many different countries immigrated to our country in times past. Not only were there hundreds of languages, but thousands of dialects as well. When it came to writing things down, our forebears did the best they could. it never occurred to them that we, hundreds of years later, would be trying to figure it all out. They were just doing their job, recording strange sounding words according to their english language sensibilities. it is therefore prudent that we allow for errors, especially regarding misspelled words and names, when we do research. We need to verify everything, and take nothing for granted. info., Willis Fagan, Club Captain, (951) 769-4482, wefbev@verizon.net. ~ Willis Fagan Discovery Club at our February meeting, arlene swinson Malkin and Laurie Larson presented a few pages of their writings and opened them for discussion by the members of the club. arlene's interest is in writing for children in preschool through fifth grade. in her book Adventures with Grandma and Grandpa she shared with these children the beauty and wonder of the forest and, with humor, conveyed to them the importance of the family. she showed also to the grandparents the major role they can play in their education. Laurie wrote an essay about grief for the loss of dear ones, as she felt it in others as a psychotherapist and, more acutely, in her personal life. under the title A Journey through Grief, she described her route from crushing grief to acceptance and peace. First there was shock, followed by feelings of anger and guilt. she realized how beneficial was every assistance she could get toward generating some positive self-talk. Love never died but, at the end of her journey, life appeared again to be worth living. Visitors are welcome to attend any of the meetings at 1:30 pm on the first Tuesday of every month. ~ Joseph Laurin Writers' Club
