An Evening to Remember. Remember your senior prom? Take a trip back to yesteryear, May 1 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. It's another chance to go to your Senior Prom. Remember your concern as to what you were going to wear? As a boy, do you wear a tux with patent leather shoes? Maybe you saved your pennies from your paper route. Did you hear that some of your buddies are going in a limo? As a girl, what will the color be? How much skin do I reveal? Can my parents afford it? Will I stay out all night like some of the other kids are going to do? And then in contention…Who will be elected Prom King and Queen? This will be a night to remember again. Don't miss it! Join us Thurs., May 1, doors open at 5:30 pm; music starts at 6 pm. Sign ups are Tues., April 22, from 1 to 3 pm, table selection at 1:15 pm in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Be there for the selection of the King and Queen. The menu includes your choice of pork loin with apricot sauce or chicken marsala (both meals served with au gratin potatoes and glazed carrots) OR pasta primavera with balsamic vinaigrette dressing. A pre-set salad with raspberry vinaigrette and ranch dressings, rolls and butter, with a cream puff with chocolate drizzle for dessert. Dinner dance price is $25 pp for BBDC members, $30 pp for guests. Checks only, please. Bring check to early sign-up or mail or drop off at 1298 Green Island St. Info., Sheila Hammer, 845-0484 or Ted Grady, 845-0359. 2014 Schedule: Thurs. July 24, Sept. 4, Nov. 6. All dances are in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom and are from 7 to 9 pm. The April schedule is as follows: Fri., April 18 (THIRD FRIDAY) and Fri., April 25. In addition to our dances, we have line dance instructions Monday evenings in the South Clubhouse. At present we are learning what are considered intermediate difficulty dances. We will start over with basic dances again in August and September. So if you think you may be interested, look to the Lifestyles Magazine in July and August for details. Intermediate line dance instructions will be held on Mondays, April 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 7 to 8:30 pm in the South Clubhouse. We also offer dance instructions for couples. Couples dance instructions for this month will be on Tues., April 8, and Tues., April 22, in the South Clubhouse from 7 to 8 pm. New to Sun Lakes? Trying to find a club or group that interests you? Feel free to come and monitor any of our dances or dance instructions. You will meet some really nice people. Info., Joe or Jean, 769-9148. Country Western Dance We continue growing with new interesting members – some of whom wish to learn and perform with others wishing only to learn and share in the new friendships formed. ALL are welcome. April has two Folkloric performances at The Lakes. May has shows scheduled for the Paisano Club, the Social Singles and the Garden Club. Please mark your calendars for our Sept. 13 dinner show which will have new dances and a new fashion show. We will have gift baskets and a 50-50 drawing. We have been practicing to make this a great show. More information on time and ticket sales will be forthcoming. For the group and class information please contact the following: Chinese - Joan Lau 769-3978; Flamenco – Nora Huffman 845-8333; Folkloric – Sussy Arzubiaga 797-3758; Hawaiian – Diane Avina/Sarah Thornberry – 769-0286 or 769-1164. International Dancers Big Band Dance Our last meeting found us delighted by a trio of vibrant girls from Cherry Valley. The trio has the style of the Andrews Sisters as they sang songs from the 40s to the 60s. They call themselves "American Doo Wop Singers." We enjoyed numbers such as "Bugle Boys," "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree," "Wake Up Little Susie," and "Love Me Tender." Our April meeting is Mexican food catered, reservations to Diana 845-1182 by March 31. We meet the second Saturday at the South Clubhouse at 3 pm. Info., Barb 845-7904 or Carol 769-7382. 80s Plus Club We hope that each of you has completed last month's challenge by visiting all three of our libraries located in each of the Clubhouses. By doing so you will have noticed that the North Clubhouse Library features a variety of hard and soft covered books including a generous selection of non-fiction. The North Clubhouse Library also contains a large selection of boxed puzzles for you to borrow and enjoy. Your challenge for this month is to visit the North Clubhouse Library and check out one of the beautiful puzzles ready for you to take home and solve. There is nothing more relaxing than assembling the pieces of a box puzzle to reveal a beautiful picture hidden away. Please take this challenge, check out the books and puzzles and have a quiet, relaxing day. Book Sale reminder: This year's first book sale will be on Sat., April 12 in the Main Clubhouse Library beginning at 9 am and ending at 2 pm. This is your chance to own the book you've always want to and at rock bottom prices. Just think, this is an opportunity to own your special book may never come again. Do not miss opportunity and be sure to arrive early to the sale. Do you have any extra books cluttering up your house? You can solve this problem by donating any extra books to the library. Should you wish to donate a large number of books or have trouble getting around, please contact either Peggy Inman at 845- 8609 or Russ Anderson at 845-9414 with any questions. Books being donated should be published in the year 2004 or late due to limited space being available on the shelves. Library Volunteers: Those of you who continue to be library volunteers, we thank you. The volunteers help us keep the shelves neat and the books orderly. They also continue to make newly donated books readily available for you to borrow and enjoy. If you would like to join the group, please contact Jill Falat at 797-3263. Thanks for being a volunteer. Happy reading and we hope to see each of you at one of the libraries located in each clubhouse throughout Sun Lakes. Library Committee Master Architectural Committee Important Community Reminders As the Systematic Inspection continues, here are a few things that have been noticed throughout the community: Landscape: The use of potted plants, when visible from any street, common area or golf course must complement the landscape. The Master Architectural Committee must approve their size, quantity, color, material and location. In general, artificial plants, grass or flowers are not acceptable but can be submitted on an individual basis. Highly decorative sculptured or painted pots may be classified as ornaments. Bird Feeders: Bird feeders may not be installed at a location where they could cause a nuisance to the adjoining neighbors. There may be no more than two bird feeders per residence. Exterior: Ornaments/Objects: An ornament is any inanimate object, constructed with any type of material that has the sole purpose of decoration. The display of novelty ornaments or decorations on any portion of a lot visible from any street, common area or golf course requires Master Architectural Committee approval. The maximum number of novelty ornaments permitted in the front yard area shall be five. The rear-yard area of a golf course lot is also limited to a maximum number of five novelty ornaments. In addition to the submittal requirements listed in Article IV, an owner should provide sketches or pictures of the ornament(s). Storage Sheds: All storage sheds are to be located in rear or side yards behind a solid fence or wall and shall not be visible from any street, common area or the golf course. DeCals: There are still residents who have the old (yellow) decal displayed on the windshield of their vehicles and some who do not have the required blue resident decal. Each vehicle registered should have the new (blue) Resident Decal. The (yellow) Sun Lakes Resident Decal expired on Dec. 31, 2010. You must remove the old (yellow) decal and replace with the new (blue) decal. Do not put both decals on your vehicles. If you still have the old (yellow) resident decal on your vehicle you may receive a citation from the community patrol for no valid Sun Lakes decal. Please come to the Administration Office and we will issue the correct number of decals for your registered vehicles.
