Not only did we bring in an outside group, Catch A Star Theatrical (CAST) Players of Beaumont, but after a meeting of the Boards of the Drama Club and the Mystery Theatre (and More), cooperation between the two groups will extend from more than just sharing storage facilities to now publicizing each other's auditions so that available parts can be sought by members of each club in addition to any interested resident of Sun Lakes. "Roses in December," the Drama Club spring production, is a beautifully written series of letters between a young female official in a college alumni office and a celebrated but reclusive author. This warm and satisfying work follows in the footsteps of A.R. Gurney's play, "Love Letters" produced by the Drama Club a few years ago. This play is part mystery, part memory, and part romance and it will keep you riveted until the final words have been read. The play is directed by Susan O'Connell who has over 40 years of experience in Orange and Riverside County's community and college theatre. Susan has also written and performs in her one-woman play, "Memoirs of a Madam" and is a published, award winning poet. She has also received 10 Inland Theatre League Awards. Starring as the male lead is Sheldon Craig who you may remember in his award-winning performance in CAST's production of "Lend Me a Tenor." Sheldon has been performing since 1966 in plays and has even performed grand opera, Mozart's Don Giovanni. Joining Sheldon as the female lead is Laura Negin who is a licensed clinical psychologist from Redlands. She also appeared in "Lend Me a Tenor" and has appeared in several other CAST plays including "Same Time, Next Year." She is also a dancer, choreographer, and singer. The Drama Club continues to provide quality theatre to the residents of Sun Lakes both on the Main Clubhouse stage but also Reader's Theatre twice yearly in the South Clubhouse. Newcomers are always welcome to come and join us in our monthly dinners, trips to enjoy theatre in other venues, and in the work involved in producing a play. Please call Rose Hermanson at 769-9810 for more information or just come to one of our monthly meetings at 1 pm on the first Thursday of each month in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Drama Club If you were one of the fortunate residents who attended our 2014 "That's Entertainment," you can attest that it was indeed a show not to be missed! Each one of our four-performance audiences were on their feet to applaud the magnificent cast in their gratitude for such wonderful afternoon's entertainment. This show had three fully sold out performances and every patron was happy that they had purchased their tickets early! Our group, after a very productive monthly business meeting on Tues., March 4, immediately started rehearsals for our next theatrical endeavor. The cast of "Sex Please, We're Sixty" is busy at work, even now, fine-tuning its delivery for this broadly themed sexy adult farce. To get a sneak peek of the plot, imagine that the action takes place at a New England bed and breakfast business run by a Mrs. Stancliff, a very proper "no- nonsense" woman in her 60s. Then, who should enter but one of her neighbors, Bud Davis, who constantly peruses her reservations to see if any of his "chicks" are checking in, and Henry, her other neighbor who has been proposing, quite unsuccessfully, to Mrs. Stancliff every day for the last 20 years. Add to this mixture of goof-balls three menopausal women, a mix-up with "little blue pills," and the shenanigans that define a farce and the result is a side-splitting, guffaw laden, enjoyable romp of laughter for our Sun Lakes audiences. You'll want to make note of the play dates of May 29, 30, 31 and June 1 to get to the Main Clubhouse lobby immediately when tickets sales begin. More information will follow in next month's issue of Lifestyles, so stay tuned! Additionally, if you have attended some of our productions and feel that this might be something that you'd like to try, please visit us at our next monthly business meeting on Tues., April 1. We meet at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. We're a friendly group and would love to meet you! Info., Bill Shova, 845-0547. Karaoke Group We will be celebrating the country of Germany in April, but we should also take time to celebrate Good Friday and Easter Sunday which both follow closely after our dinner dance. Who knows? We may even spot an Easter bunny or two during the evening. Our evening on April 17 starts at 5:30 pm when the Ballroom doors open and members and guests are greeted by either Martie or Evelyn or both, our board officers. Music by Global Affair will start at 6 pm and sure to play a Polka or two for Germany, and for your listening and dancing pleasure. Our dinner buffet starts at 6:30 pm. We run two buffet tables so it doesn't take that long. It may crowd us a little on seating space but it is important to get everyone served as quickly as possible. The menu will be table served dinner salad, German chocolate cake with whipped cream for dessert. The buffet will be German brats, warm German potato salad, sauerkraut, sole Florentine and asparagus with carrots. Coffee on the table and iced tea on a side board. Sign ups are on Thurs., April 3, in the North Clubhouse at 3 pm. $22 for a member, $25 for a non-resident guest. If you cannot attend after signing up call Martie at 769-3217 for a take out dinner box. Info., 769-9308. International Culture Club Spring is here! It's time to kick up our heels and enjoy every second of this wonderful life we experience here. Our members will enjoy the next event on Sat., April 19, starting at 5 pm with a free, half-hour rhumba dance lesson given by Jim and Susan Fitzpatrick. They will review their previous lesson and add more dance steps. By 5:30 pm, it is time to relax, get our drinks, and enjoy socialization with friends and neighbors. At 6 pm, "A Touch of Class" will begin their evening of music and will continue until 9:30 pm for your listening and dancing pleasure. This "dressy" evening has a delicious sit-down meal with a menu to delight our palettes. We begin with rolls and a dinner salad. The entrées offer a nice variety starting with chicken marsala with mushrooms served with roasted potatoes and asparagus and carrots for $21. For meat lovers, pomegranate and cherry sauce, pork with potatoes and asparagus and carrots for $23. The vegetarian option is a spinach manicotti with sauce and asparagus and carrots for $17. We close out the meal with a pineapple upside-down cake. Sign up for this dinner dance on Thurs., April 10 in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Table selections will begin at 2:30 pm so come early and have your paperwork completed ahead of time. If you have signed up but find that you are unable to attend, please contact Carol Rhine at 845- 5962 and she will help you get your meals to take home. Stay young… Dance!
