I always look forward to the grandkids and the Easter Egg Hunt. Whatever you do, enjoy and be thankful for the time we have together with our loved ones. In February, the caregivers support group merged with us. Kay Perryman is no longer moderator of this group, but we are blessed with two very dedicated and knowledgeable people, Larry Liebers and Diane Stone. Our next meeting and caregivers support group will be Thurs., April 17 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Our guest speaker will be Johnathan Thomas, Ph.D. He is co- founder and Executive Director of the California Center for the Aging. His topic will be geriatric management and Long Term Care planning. You can drop your loved one off at the Arts & Crafts Room then go on to the meeting. Our loving volunteers are there for you. In February we were blessed with a new volunteer, Shelly Braatz. She begins our morning with light Tai Chi exercises for those who wish to participate. Shelly has offered to share her time and talent with us each month. We always have some sort of entertainment. This month Susan Brown returns to our group. She is another great volunteer who lovingly gives her time and shares her talent. We play games, take walks and sometimes just sit and visit. It's all about your loved one and whatever we can do to make the time we have them a happy experience. If you would like to know more about this group, please call me, Anne, at 845-8700. If you have questions or would to learn more about memory loss, we have reading materials we can share with you. Contact Shirley at 845-2008. Memory Care Group (Formerly Alzheimer's & Dementia Helpers) Continuing with our educational information (50 things) you should know about Alzheimer's disease, here are numbers 37, 38, and 39. #37 Understanding Alzehimer's can help if you have a loved one with the disease. #38 If you have a loved one with Alzheimer's, you will need to change what you expect from the person. #39 Being flexible is key to coping with the change caused be Alzheimers. We meet January through October, typically on the second Wednesday of the month, 11 am - 12:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Bus room. There are discussions on the latest findings and research, medications, nutrition, exercise, and coping skills brought to us by various speakers. Come to our group to learn and share your experience with others. Info., Gerri Piechowski, 769-2305. Parkinson's Support Yiddish Culture Club "Oh to be in England, now that spring is here;" "April in Paris! Chestnuts in blossom;" "Spring rain in Spain stays mainly in the plain." By George, we might really have it right this time! Pardon the parodies and clichés but we really do think that practice makes perfect and we have had five years to put into practice our evening of "Everything You've Always Wanted To Know About A Seder But Were Afraid to Ask!" We try each year to do things a bit differently to enhance this evening. Yes, we do listen to our members' comments and suggestions, but to see the differences you'll have to come to the Seder. So get your reservations in early since we are strictly limited to the number of persons we can accommodate. This secular interactive Seder (the word Seder means Order) will include the traditional wine and foods that are necessary for the ceremony: unleavened bread (matzoh), bitter herbs (horseradish), a green vegetable (parsley), charoset (made from apples, almonds, and wine), and hard boiled eggs (which we call 'roasted eggs'). Please take note that this is not a dinner! We will all be sampling these traditional foods which are symbols that are necessary and represent parts of the Seder. Coffee and dessert will be served as well. Seder traditions can vary depending on family traditions and even the countries of origin of the families but the food items mentioned above remain the same. Songs will be sung - some serious and some parodies. Questions will be asked; explanations will be given. We will explore the ten original plagues and explain the ten modern plagues. Of course we will all wait eagerly for Elijah to come and drink his glass of wine and there will be the hunt for the Afikomen at the end of the Seder. Those attending the Seder should look forward to a night of active participation and fun as Passover is a very joyful celebration as well as a night of wondrous storytelling. This celebration will take place on Wed., April 9 at 7 pm in the South Clubhouse. All are welcome, so bring your family and friends to this most joyous of holidays. There will be a $5 pp charge for guests and a $3 pp charge for members. Flyers with reservation forms are in the Main Clubhouse lobby. Paid reservations are due by April 4. Please make checks payable to the Yiddish Culture Club and send to Fran Rayner, 5871 Myrtle Beach or call her at 440-5007.
