We will be holding a walk within Sun Lakes on Fri., April 25, from 11 am to 3 pm. The walk will follow the same route as the one we use for July 4th and the Veteran's walk. This is the 11th year of the Relay for Life in the Banning-Beaumont area. At some point in everyone's life we will be touched by cancer, whether it be ourselves or a loved one. Cancer does not discriminate. The fear of hearing the diagnosis that you or a loved one has cancer can turn your life upside down. Great advances are being made all the time toward better treatments and eventually a cure. However research needs funding. That is where we can help. We need your participation in this event. Please help spread the word in our districts, clubs and among your friends. Sign up to walk at the Sun Lakes event or come out to support us to show your dedication to finding a cure. Make a personal donation in honor or memory of a loved one. Please help us pay it forward. The Banning- Beaumont Relay for Life committee will be helping us sign up participants. All donations we raise will be included in the Banning-Beaumont area Relay for Life. Luminaries can be purchased in memory of those we lost or in honor of those brave survivors. We will have a survivor's lap in the beginning. Sign up forms and more information can be found through your districts and at the front desk of the Main Clubhouse. Make checks payable to the American Cancer Society. The contact person for the Sun Lakes event is Charlie Friese, 769- 0389. Together we can take the next step toward a better legacy for our families and friends. Sun Lakes has always been a strong supporter of the Relay for Life. Thank you for your support. Cars have changed as have traffic rules, driving conditions, and the roads you travel every day. Even the most experienced drivers can benefit from brushing up on their driving skills. By taking the AARP Smart Driver course you'll learn the current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques, and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today's increasingly challenging driving environment. In order to qualify for the four hour renewal course, you must have taken the eight hour or the four hour in the last three to four years. After taking the course, you may even be eligible for a discount on your car insurance! (Participants should consult their auto insurance agent for details). An AARP Smart Driver course is Tues., April 29, from 12:30 to 5 pm at the South Clubhouse. The course costs $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Space is limited, so register early at the Main Clubhouse starting April 1. Calling all Sun Lakers! Once again all Sun Lakes residents will have the opportunity to participate in one of the most worthy causes that our community sponsors: Sun Lakes Charity Week. In the 23 years that residents have participated in Charity Week activities, more than $1 million has been raised to help people in the San Gorgonio Pass area with food, clothing, medicine, shelter, and other needs. Last year Charity Week was expanded from a Wednesday through Sunday event to a full week (Monday through Sunday) event. This year the Charity Committee elected to continue that tradition. Check out what's planned for the week: Mon., June 16: Pitch & Putt Tournament; Tennis Tournament Tues., June 17: Pancake Breakfast; Helicopter Ball Drop Wed., June 18: Luncheon & Fashion Show (Fashion Show will be hosted by Stein Mart) Thurs., June 19: Monster Scramble & Luncheon; Bocce Ball Event Fri., June 20: Dinner/Dance/Fun Activities Night Sat., June 21: Pro Am Golf Shootout and Luncheon Sun., June 22: Pro Am Charity Golf Tournament; Luncheon, Auction, & Raffle Subcommittees are already hard at work putting together the Charity Week events – all of which boast lots of fun. You should note that the prizes for many of the activities are bigger than ever this year. So please plan to participate and be sure to highlight the week on your calendar (June 16-22). It's for such a great cause. A much more detailed description of each day's activities, time frames, how to sign-up, and ticket cost will be publicized in next month's Sun Lakes Lifestyles Magazine as well as flyers and other media that will start coming out later next month. And your raffle tickets will be delivered to you around mid-April. Stay tuned for more information to follow, and in the meantime, reserve the week on those calendars!
