40 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2014 | SPORtS & OUtDOOR ACtIVItIES SPORtS & OUtDOOR ACtIVItIES | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | APRIL 2014 41 Horseshoes for Fun Our club meeting is the third Wednesday at 2:30 pm. Weather permitting, the meeting will be held at the courts. For those of you who have never played, please join us. Skill is not a prerequisite, and it is a lot of fun. If you have questions please contact Bob Cooper at (951) 769-6352 or Mike Saperstein at (951) 769-7909. ~ Bob Cooper Bocce Ball Schedule Alert: At our monthly team meeting it was decided to change our In-House 9-Ball Tournament from the third Saturday, to the fourth Wednesday of every month at 7 pm, effective in April. As always and with every tournament; to qualify to play in any tournament, the club member must practice with the team at least once during the previous week. Besides the no masse', no jump shot rule to protect our equipment, this is the only rule outside the BCA (Billiards Congress of America Rules) that we have. For our monthly 8-Ball Tournament, oddly just like last month, Kenny Payne and Ray Windhorn battled their way to the final round. This time Kenny was undefeated in regular play so Ray coming up from the Losers Bracket with one loss would have to beat Kenny twice. Kenny won that first game, thus clinching the title. Now here's a Cinderella story for you. During our monthly 9-Ball Tournament Thanh Harrah plowed through the field of opposition players undefeated and ended up playing Joe Aviles in the final game. As in all double elimination type play, Joe coming off of one loss would have to beat Thanh twice to take the tournament win for the month. That was not to be because Thanh continued the winning streak and won the game and title 9-Ball Champion for the month. Congratulations Thanh! We practice together at 7 pm on first and third Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly 8-Ball Club meetings are on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 pm. The in-house 8-Ball tournament is on the second Wednesday at 7 pm. The in-house 9-Ball tournament is now on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7 pm. Our traveling tournaments are the second and fourth Monday of the month. The second Monday, we travel to Hemet Solera and the fourth Monday Solera Hemet comes here. Check the message board in the Billiards Room for any changes of dates or locations. It's a great way to make new friends and get a little exercise in the process. Our group has eleven members on our roster. We meet at the Horseshoe Pits every Wednesday at 9:30 am and play until we get tired or approximately 10:30 am, whichever comes first. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Ron Erickson at (951) 846-3288, rejlerickson@sbcglobal. net or Gary Christie at (951) 941-9100, goldtoy@earthlink.net. ~ Ron Erickson Our bi-monthly potluck in February, hosted by Gary and Linda Christie, was so much fun! They chose to decorate around a Valentine's Day theme, which was so lovely, and by the time the tables were loaded with the potluck fare, we all enjoyed a feast fit for royalty! (See photo #1.) Yes, in case you're wondering, our group has the best cooks and bakers at Four Seasons! As always, after the potluck, the spouses are all invited to come watch the play in the Billiards Room. It's so satisfying to see all four tables occupied by two teams each, all vying to achieve and stay at the coveted table one position. Even though one team must lose, and take the walk of shame to table four, they are still smiling and laughing, because it's always just plain and simple FUN! (See photo #2.) It's amazing to watch the guys patiently advise and encourage the ladies who are their partners for the play. Kudos, guys! The camaraderie is evident, and friendships have ensued as a result. (See photo #3.) C'mon, Four Seasons, drop by the Billiards Room anytime between 1 and 3 pm on any Tuesday to check out the festivities. Every Tuesday is pretty much a billiards party, because we have such an amazing group of people at all skill levels, playing billiards ~ just for fun! ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine Billiards for Fun Top L: Photo #1, potluck party; Bottom L: Photo #2, having fun in the Billiards Room; Top R: Photo #3, friendships forged.
