4 OUR YUCAIPA | APRIL 2014 | CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE | OUR YUCAIPA | APRIL 2014 5 Mission Statement The Yucaipa Valley Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to promoting a vibrant business environment by cooperative interaction among business, government and community For more information, call (909) 790-1841 • Fax (909) 363-7373 35139 Yucaipa Blvd., Yucaipa, CA 92399 info@yucaipachamber.org "If you don't know where you're going, you'll end up somewhere else." Yogi Berra How time flies! The first quarter of year 2014 is finished and as I'm looking over my profit and loss numbers, I see I have a lot to do to improve if I am to hit my goals for the year. It seems to me I must not have worked hard enough, long enough, or maybe, just maybe, I didn't work smart enough. I put together my budget, so I know what the numbers are that I need to achieve to hit my budget, but I still fell just short of my numeric goals. Did you set a budget? What do you want to accomplish? What are your personal goals? How are you administering your goals? Do you follow up? Do you have a daily and weekly "to do" list? Do you hold yourself and others accountable? So many questions and so little time! Numeric goals are just one part of the many goals I set for 2014. One of the goals I set for myself is to take one day a week off to do what I want to do. I have not accomplished that either. Sometimes I wonder if I'm running my business or if my business is running me? If you feel this happening to you too, join me in attending one of the Chamber's Small & Home Based Business breakfast meetings. Last year, Michelle Lopez was the Vice Chair of this committee. This year we have Cheryl Benton, who has large shoes to fill, but she has started off the year great. This month's breakfast on April 3 will be up in beautiful Oak Glen at Smart Solar Power. I hope you will join us. In March we had a fantastic presentation on sales and client relationships presented by Cindy Carpenter at the Yucaipa Community Center. We would like to continue having these special presentations on a regular basis so we need your input on topics and speakers of interest to you and your business. Please contact me or the Chamber office with your suggestions. ~ Jim Hammond, Chairman Yucaipa Valley Chamber of Commerce a message from the chairman 2014 Board of Directors Chairman, Jim Hammond Comfort Keepers Chair-Elect, Nancy Kenny PrimeLending Finance Vice-Chair, Jason Ross Law Office of Linda Roberts-Ross Directors Dr. Cheryl Marshall Crafton Hills College Dora Ordonez Asaderos Restaurant & Supermarket Cheryl Benton NuSkin Eric Vreeman YCJUSD Jeff Dewan Edward Jones Financial Advisors Lynnette Alvarado Wildwood Canyon Villa CHAMBER STAFF Pamela Emenger, President/CEO Ellen Benefiel, Membership Development Coordinator AMBASSADOR TEAM David Avila, Retired Cal Fire Battalion Chief Cheryl Benton, NuSkin Pamela Brierley-Vengarick, Good Nite Inn Marlyn Crampton, Yucaipa Rotary Club Jeff Dewan, Edward Jones Marie Feuer, Life Path Healings Brandy Gomez, Law Office of Linda Roberts-Ross Debbie Harber, Sequoia Digital Marketing Nancy Kenny, PrimeLending Michelle Lopez, AVON Paul Norwood, Safe Harbor Internet Services Dora Ordonez, Asaderos Supermarket Samantha Short, Yucaipa Wellness Center 1: Ambassador Committee Meeting 11:30 am Granlund's Sweet Temptations 12194 California St. 3: Small/Home Based Business Breakfast 8 am Location: Smart Solar Power Office 38648 Oak Glen Rd., Oak Glen 8: Yucaipa First Committee Meeting 9 am City Hall 9: Board Meeting 8:30 am, Chamber Office 10: Ribbon Cutting 10 am Target Nutrition, 12189 7th St., Yucaipa 12: Ribbon Cutting, 10 am, YAPS, 11937 13th St. 12: Inland Leaders Charter School Food Truck Event 11 am - 6 pm, 12375 California St., inlandleaders.com 14: City Council Meeting 6 pm 17: State of the City Luncheon 11:30 am – 1:30 pm Yucaipa Community Center 34900 Oak Glen Road Reservations mandatory: 790-1841 19: Membership Mixer at Suveg Cellars 37296 Ironwood, Yucaipa 26: Kiwanis Bicycle Rodeo 10 am to 2 pm Yucaipa Community Park 28: City Council Meeting 6 pm 30: Government Relations Committee meeting, 8:30 am Chamber office Julie's Candies • Dynamic Gun Sales and Supplies • Herbal Life • Origami Owl JB Paving & Engineering • Marie Quinn • MK Adventures Asaderos Mexican & Seafood Restaurant •Asaderos Supermarket •Morongo Band of Mission Indians Kopper Kettle Kafe & Katering Co. • The Valley Messenger Oil Can Henry's • Braswell's Yucaipa Valley Convalescent Calimesa Country Club • Lyndsey Financial • Salisbury CPA Mesa Grande Academy •Braswell's Hampton Manor Best Lumber • Benton Construction • Sorenson Engineering Pass Physical Therapy • Montecito Memorial Park Good Nite Inn • Yucaipa Calimesa Joint Unified School District Beaver Medical Clinic • Rose Garden Residential Center Braswell's Community Convalescent Center Imperial Dental • Chuck Christie • Swimtech, Inc. Campaign is a shop local program that supports the Yucaipa Valley community. The purpose of the program is to spotlight local businesses and continue circulating dollars spent locally for local benefits. Businesses are also listed on the website www.yucaipafirst.com where shoppers can view a directory of services and alphabetical listing of the participating businesses. Susan Sarkan receives her $100 in gift certificates to make purchases at Yucaipa FIRST! businesses. Crown Ace Hardware store was founded in 1949 in Corona del Mar, CA. The name was derived from the name of the community itself. Corona del Mar, translated from Spanish, means "Crown of the Sea." The original founders recognized the need for a local, convenient and helpful hardware store where you can quickly and easily find what you are looking for. In 1974, Jeff Schulein purchased Crown Hardware and expanded into Orange County and beyond, there are now 17 stores throughout Southern California and one in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Crown Ace Hardware is a strong supporter of the Yucaipa community and has been a proud sponsor of the Yucaipa FIRST! program since its inception. Knowing the value of keeping shopping dollars local and giving Yucaipa residents a reason to stay in town to complete their "honey do" list, Crown Ace stocks more than just hammers and nails. Their inventory includes a vast selection of products far beyond any ordinary hardware store including Benjamin Moore paint, Weber Grills and accessories, small appliances, vacuums, gardening supplies, power tools, patio living, seasonal décor and so much more. Their knowledgeable staff is committed to offering exceptional customer service and for the seventh year in a row J.D. Powers & Associates has awarded Crown Ace Hardware the "Highest in Customer Satisfaction with Home Improvement Retail Stores" (2007-2013). So this spring stop by your helpful hardware place, you'll be sure to find what you need! Crown Ace Hardware is located at 12157 5th Street, and their phone number is (909) 797-1166. Business hours are Monday through Friday 7 am to 8 pm, Saturday 7 am to 7 pm and Sunday 8 am to 7 pm. Crown Ace Hardware is a proud Yucaipa FIRST! Sponsor. Yucaipa FiRST!
