6 BEAUMONT NOW | APRIL 2014 BEAUMONT NOW | APRIL 2014 7 The San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital Foundation is happy to announce that the Emerald Ball gala, held March 6 at Morongo Casino, Resort, and Spa, was a successful and poignant event for the Foundation. This year marked the 30th anniversary of the annual dinner, which always honors a "Perfect Partner" who has contributed to the Hospital's success. This year the event honored Dorothy Ellis, former Hospital District Board Chair, who passed away in October, 2013. "We honored Dorothy as our Perfect Partner this year because of her many contributions not only to the community at large, but to the Hospital as well," said Siobhan Lopez, Foundation Coordinator. "Aside from being the CNO at our Hospital in years past, she served on our Healthcare District Board and brought so many programs to our Hospital and community, including VNA Hospice, Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Support Group, and Relay for Life," Lopez said. "Those organizations are still continuing to raise money for the fight against cancer and help people with their journeys with cancer. She is living on through her many works and philanthropic contributions." The Emerald Ball was sold out, with 500 people in attendance to enjoy a nice dinner, dancing and entertainment, and both a live and silent auction. Nearly $90,000 was raised, according to Lopez, including the funds raised for cardiac heart monitors during the "Hospital Challenge." The crowd especially enjoyed the popular Mistress of Ceremonies, Martha Green, the return of Auctioneer Tim Taylor of Keystone Pacific Property Management, and the music of Paul McDonald. Two of the most coveted auction items were private dinners at Martha Green's home, which raised a combined $8,000. Green is the owner of The Eating Room and Dough'lectibles Bakery in Redlands, and is well known for her cooking and philanthropy. In addition to the entertainment, Dr. Magi Senthil, an oncologist from the Loma Linda University Cancer Center, gave a brief lecture on breast cancer, before a slideshow honoring Dorothy Ellis's life and contributions was played for the attendees. "Dorothy's family, including Bruce, her husband, Barbara and Susan, her daughters, Tim, her son-in-law, and Amanda, her granddaughter, were in attendance," Lopez said. "We SGMH Foundation Dinner Honored Dorothy Ellis honored her memory through the touching slideshow, and will be dedicating the garden between the old and new hospital buildings to her, and will hold a dedication event in July to name the garden the Dorothy Ellis Serenity Garden."
