If the first falls on a Saturday or Sunday then sign-ups will begin on the following Monday. If a holiday falls on the first day of the month, sign-ups will begin the next day. WAITING LIST POLICY The waiting list is created by the Rec. Dept. for sold out events/excursions. This list is used (in order of registration) when the attendee has to cancel due to illness, doctor's appointment, etc. The waiting list is not used for additional sign-ups for secondary excursions that are scheduled due to their popularity. REFUND POLICY: 1. Cancellations made 30 days prior to the departure date of an excursion or special event will qualify for a full refund. 2. Cancellations made after the 30 day refund deadline are not refundable. However, if an excursion or event has sold out and there is a wait list, the Recreation Department may issue a refund if the ticket can be resold from the wait list. Thank you! reCreatIon departMent | sun lakes lIfestyles | May 2014 | 9 EXCURSIONS Roger's Gardens & the Heritage Museum Mon., July 14, 8 am - 4:30 pm, $43 pp includes docent tour and Claim Jumper buffet lunch. Our first stop of the day will be the beautiful Rogers Gardens, which sits upon seven acres across from Newport Beach. Presented in a garden like setting, the nursery offers one of the most extensive varieties of foliage and flowering plants found anywhere. Afterwards, we will load up and head to the Claim Jumper in Fountain Valley where a picnic lunch buffet will be waiting for you. After lunch we will take a short drive over to the Heritage Museum for a docent lead tour of the Queen Ann Style Kellogg House and grounds to learn about the history of the family. The Kellogg House was designed by Hiram Clay Kellogg and was built in 1898. Lunch menu includes: tri-tip & turkey meat platter with assorted breads, cheddar & Swiss cheese, potato salad, fresh fruit, chips & salsa, soda/ice tea/or coffee. Redwoods, Rail & Wine June 29 - July 3, five days, four nights. Discover Mendocino County, where rugged Pacific coastline, breathtaking beaches, picturesque villages, majestic redwood forests and "America's Greenest Wine Region" beckon you to escape to a slower pace. You'll spend a night in San Jose, and then travel north to Mendocino County. Along the way, you'll stop off in the quaint town of Boonville, sip some wine in the Anderson Valley, and stroll through Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. In Fort Bragg, you'll board the historic Skunk Train for a ride through the redwoods and enjoy a BBQ lunch, followed by a tour of the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse. You'll travel back to Monterey where you'll have a chance to experience the world famous Monterey Bay Aquarium and also make a stop to tour the wine caves at Eberie Winery in Paso Robles. Cost is $740 pp (double) and $1,060 pp (single). Payment plans are available, call Ranae for more information at 769-6652. Cher in Concert Sat., July 5, 4:30 - 11:30 pm, $62 pp includes dinner. The "Dressed to Kill" concert will hit Ontario, CA for one night only. Joining Cher will be the incredible Cyndi Lauper! Our seating will be in the Skyview at Sailor Jerry's Bar. This seating is private and reserved for Sun Lakes only. We will have private, comfortable seating and full use of the bar/lounge (no host). First on the program, you will check-in at your designated areas (bus 1, bus 2, bus 3) in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Please check-in no later than 4:30 pm. We will then all take a seat for a delicious meal from the restaurant. Finally, you will board your designated motorcoach before 6 pm for a short drive to Citizens Bank Arena. The bus will leave at 6 pm sharp for the 8 pm show. Menu includes: Meat lasagna, salad, garlic toast, and a cookie for dessert. Coffee or ice tea included. EXCURSION SIGN UPS: THURS., MAY 1 SPRING GARAGE SALES Start cleaning out those garages. Sales are 8 am – 4 pm. Residents are asked to have any remaining items that did not sell back into their homes after the garage sale. Our 14th Annual Senior Health Fair is co-sponsored by the Visiting Nurses Association and will feature over 50 exhibits dedicated to senior issues and concerns. Screenings for blood pressure and bone density are just a few of the booths available to visit. This event is FREE to residents; please come see what the excitement is all about! Senior Health Fair Sat., May 10, 7 - 8:30 pm, Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Enjoy an evening of laughs with Corporate Comedy Entertainment featuring three great comedians from the Los Angeles area. Doors will open at 6 pm. This event will be tabled seating. You can pick up your registration forms at the Main Clubhouse Reception Desk. Tickets are $7 each, checks only. Limit four people per check / 8-10 people per table. Table assignments will be posted in the Recreation Office Hallway. COMEDY NIGHT Real Pirates: The Untold Story at San Diego Natural History Museum Wed., July 23, 7:30 am – 5 pm, $42 pp. Arrgghh you ready to see the World's First Exhibition of Authentic Pirate Treasure? Sail with legendary pirate Sam Bellamy and his crew and learn the true story of the Whydah, from her historic transformation from slave ship to pirate ship to her final resting place on the ocean floor in 1717. View more than 200 artifacts, including cannons, swords, coins, gold, and jewelry, recovered off the coast of Cape Cod. Enjoy this journey through the first authenticated pirate ship discovered in the U.S. Waters. Try your hand at raising a pirate flag, tying sailors' knots, and looking through a telescope to find ships with treasure on board.
