On the last night of the play the Drama Club members and the members of the Mystery Theatre & More met for a joint get together at the South Clubhouse. Many people are members of both groups and the social gathering had as its goal greater cooperation between the clubs. As the population of Sun Lakes changes we are promoting more participation in the activities here by the newer, younger homeowners. May brings the Drama Club's Readers Theatre production of "The African Queen," the popular movie of the 1950s which originally starred Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. Our production closely follows the Lux Radio Theatre presentation complete with advertisements for the "beauty soap of the stars." Many in our community remember being glued to their radios at the time for the weekly dramatizations of the popular films of the day. The Readers Theatre is limited by the size of the South Clubhouse to only 100 seats and therefore early purchase of tickets is recommended. Reader' Theatre tickets can be purchased by calling Harriet Briant at 769-0383. The cost of the tickets is $6 and includes the play and a wine and cheese reception prior to the show. Our Fall play has been selected and auditions for "Alone Together Again," a family comedy in which the parents are thwarted in their dreams of freedom when the kids are all out of the house when out of the blue their parents show up and move in. There's lots of drama before the happy ending. Auditions will be held in the Main Clubhouse Bus room from 9 am to 12 noon on June 23 and 24. All residents are encouraged to try out. We are always looking for interested newcomers. Whatever your theatre interests they can be found within the club which meets on the first Thursday of each month for its business meeting at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. On the third Thursday of each month in the same location at 1 pm we may present workshops or fun activities for the member's enjoyment. If you are interested please call Rose Hermanson at 769-9810 for more information. Drama Club We are in final rehearsals for our next production, a side-splitting comedy that will soon be hitting the Ballroom stage, "Sex Please, We're Sixty." The cast, a group of your favorite Sun Lakes' regulars, is fine-tuning its delivery for this broadly themed sexy adult farce. Just pretend that you are that proverbial fly on the wall and imagine seeing the action taking place at a New England bed and breakfast business run by a Mrs. Stancliff, a very proper "no-nonsense" woman in her 60s. Then, who should enter but one of her neighbors, Bud Davis, who constantly peruses her reservations to see if any of his "chicks" are checking in, and Henry, her other neighbor who has been proposing, quite unsuccessfully, to Mrs. Stancliff every day for the last 20 years. Add to this mixture of goof-balls three menopausal women, a mix-up with "little blue pills," and the shenanigans that define a farce and the result is a side- splitting, guffaw laden, enjoyable romp of laughter for everyone in attendance, unless you have prudish inclinations. This is by all means an adult comedy! You'll want to be one of the first in line to purchase tickets when they first go on sale on May 12 for the performance dates of May 29, 30, 31 and June 1. Tickets will be sold from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday for two weeks beginning on May 12. As is custom, the curtain will open at 7 pm for the Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances. However, for the Sunday matinée performance on June 1 please be in your seats and ready for action at 2 pm. Also, with Lou Evans as the Director and holding the reins and massaging the timing for all of the one- liners, you can bet that this will be a first rate evening (or afternoon) of what we all like to do best, laugh! Even though we have a sizable membership roster, we are an extremely friendly group and realize that in a community of our size there is undoubtedly undiscovered talent that is just itching to try their hand at stage production. We'd very much like to give you that opportunity. Please visit us at our next monthly business meeting and introduce yourself. We meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Info., Bill Shova, 845-0547.
